Smoke

"The gays" are notoriously, always looking for clues.

It does not matter if you are dead. So much better. There are the obits to comb over and the histories to be scanned.

I do not want to claim Scalia as a homo but it is possible that somewhere in there he has "special friends".

I read this today and drew my own conclusions.

Why Justice Scalia was staying for free at a Texas resort

In addition to reading between the lines, there is the question of "staying free" and all.

It is very tempting not to use power once you have it. There are all kinds of people more than willing to bow before your throne and offer up gifts and even sacrifices.

It is all moot.

Even though we always look a bit harder to find the motivation beneath blatant homophobia.

The impulse to holler "QUEER" is always present among those who worry about their own masculinity.

Even if masculinity has any relation to gay other than increasing the attractiveness of the man in question.

Sorry to say, in his later years, Scalia was a frog.

But young? A stud. Butcher than thou.

I am just sayin'. I get to. This bastard said enough from the bench. A mean nasty streak of gay baiting is in his professional and personal history.

Oh, yeh. Rest in peace Antonin.

Taking ourselves too seriously

The sensitivities of all people, me included, are due for a little toughening.

How have we gotten to this?

Halloween Costume Correctness on Campus: Feel Free to Be You, but Not Me

I grew up with cultural insensitivity. Hillbillies, being the brunt of others' humor themselves, swing free and wide with their humor both gross and polite.

I challenge anyone who does not emit a chuckle at a good ethnic joke.

Well, no. the humorless and austere, our new churches, have no fucking sense of humor least of all about themselves.

I love faggot jokes.

Q: How do 5 gay men walk? A: One Direction! Q: What do you call a gay drive by? A: "a fruit roll up." Q: Why can't gays drive faster than 68mph? A: Because at 69 they blow a rod. Q: What does a homo say to another gay going on vacation? A: Can I help you pack your shit? Q: Why are most politicans in the closet or gay? A: Because they can only mandate. Q: Why are gays happy that they have nutsacks A: Because they use them as mudflaps. Q: What do you call a homosexual dentist? A: Tooth fairy Q: Did you hear about the gay guy who got kicked off the golf course? A: He was playing with too many strokes. Q: Why is Katie Holmes divorcing Tom Cruise? A: Apparently he's been in A Few Good Men. Q: How do you fit three homosexuals on one barstool? A: Turn it upside-down!

source: http://www.jokes4us.com/dirtyjokes/gayjokes.html

You must have chuckled at least once. Good for you. I did.

That last one was in a movie I saw the other day. The barstool one.

What the fuck has happened to us?

As for the costumes, well, around here the sombrero would be taken as headgear for a special day and the serape would be used by mostly women as a "winter time" garment.

Sure, there is nothing funny about an epithet or hate filled speech but it is not the words.

Humor leavens the tension between those who are different from one another. Long live insensitivity.

New frontiers

"Now what do they want?"

"They are never satisfied"

"Those gays"

You are goddam right we are not satisfied. Still faced with discrimination in all ways imaginable, we want it all. And we are going to get it too.

Next Fight for Gay Rights: Bias in Jobs and Housing

John and I are very fortunate. We have money. We are well placed. We have lived in two of the most liberal states. Massachusetts and now California.

We have kids! We have grandkids.

The truth is that in some areas we pass. We look good. And are not a threat in anyway.

In fact, as far as I am concerned, I am a threat to the bigot because I will knock any of them on their ass. I remember getting cat calls in Las Vegas of all places. Someone threw a can. OK. Let's see, asshole motherfucker. And we "upped" to them or would have. But they were gone.

John is a long time hand holder in public. He cured me of my fears in that regard. And so on and on.

Bigots know who to pick on. They choose them. Bullies always have.

But if they get set on their asses often enough they will get wary.

A lot of straight people, white and black, may not realize that there is considerable discrimination and bias in housing, employment and the like.

It is subtle. But it is there and it is strong. To be singled out, to be the subject of hateful epithets, to be slighted for promotion, all that is the daily experience of many gay, lesbian, and yes I am getting it, transgenders! I am a work in progress on that just like the most knuckle dragging neanderthal straight man.

Satisfied?

You try hearing the word "faggot" mumbled. See the eye rolls.

And here is how it is different than "the blacks". Once we are discovered, we can be badgered covertly. It is not blatant. It is not clearly black and white to put it more bluntly. I was harassed in school, my defense was my brain. I was number one in my class and I had the support of enough kids to fight it off. Or, more importantly, not fight. I got swung on once and I hit him back so hard he fell on his ass. Reputation set.

Sissies have always been laughed at. Little do those bastards know that sissies are tough and resilient because they have to be. And, ironically, they are often great in bed because they have so much suppressed anger and are ready to be loved and love back hard. There is more about that but it is none of your business. We could take most boring straight men under the table and leave them bleary eyed. The equivalent of drinking them under the table.

But who would want to do that? Most of the bigoted men I have met are actually fat, unattractive boors who can't even get a hard on for themselves or find a woman who wants them in the first place.

Am I getting too mean here? I will stop now.

But you can read on. Here, where the so called "side issues" are discussed in more depth.

The fight has just begun.

Weasel

Bobby Jindal is a nasty little weasel.

It is OK for me to say that because I go to a church that hates Indian-Louisiannians.

Other than that, I am sure he is a nice guy.

Bobby Jindal: I’m Holding Firm Against Gay Marriage

Probably labeled as "colored" all his life and up from the swamps of that fetid state, Mr. Jindal is one of those people who having gotten theirs become baiters of those who have not yet arrived.

"Holding firm". Really Bobby? Do you get the double entendré of that phrase.

As hard as it is he will endure. Holding tight. Stiff resistance. Pushing through.

I somehow think that Mr. Jindal has a case of the "protesteth too much" thing. The closet cases are always the worst. Or the ones who should respond out of their own experience of being marginalized. But no. They become bullies.

French twist

You have to admire the French.

They keep sending a gay ambassador to The Vatican.

It has the papers going nuts. Pretzel logic.

Pope Francis Meets With France's Openly Gay Nominee for Ambassador to the Vatican

The church has ended up against the mainstream and has its head up its ass almost to the end of the day.

There is a little bit of time for them to take the head out with a big pop.

The big secret that everyone knows is that the church is a hotbed and refuge for many gay men who go to seminary. Many get ordained and stay gay. Well, you are gay forever as it turns out.

The hypocrisy is astounding but they have backed themselves in a corner.

One need not go into all the ins and outs so to speak. Start with the black dresses and move on from there. I have talked with gay priests who tell some pretty sexy stories. Of course, these are not "real priests", huh?

Well, at least they are talking.

I love that the French are the ones to send "the gay" to challenge the system.

Talking point

It is interesting how the gay marriage "issue" is playing out in the GOPrimaries.

Once again, it turns out that if you know "one of the gays" or have "one" as your relative there is a whole world of difference.

At Candidate Forum, Walker Discusses Same-Sex Marriage of a Relative

This is why it has always been and will always be about us coming out to "them", those straight people who are are relatives and parents.

Sure it is tough but the truth is always tough. We live in an age of denial. Many people do not want to face truths of any kind because we/they fear discomfort.

I am very happy for Walker to have a gay relative. I bet there are a lot more in the other families.

There are no names but I reach out and pat his relative on the back. A hearty pat!

Gay rights travel

It is not news that Russia is about as homophobic as any other place on earth other than, well, maybe there are a lot of places you can't come out.

From this, I gather that there is a long ways to go in the communist dream state.

After ‘Interns’ Star Came Out in Russia, a Mix of Fury and Shrugs

It took an American.

That will teach them.

It is a nice story. He is courageous because even his male costar is a professed homophobe.

Yet he plays a guy who has two gay fathers. Go figure. The Russkies like to play both sides against the middle these days.

I think that he is performing a public service. That his life could be in danger is not only too bad but a continuing disgrace in an ignorant world.

It is a good reminder about how far we have come and yet to go.

I do not kid myself. The good ole "land of the free" could slip back anytime. Look at the ones who are running for office.

Do you think Ted Cruz is going to let me live my life in peace? I doubt it. Seriously.

Another milestone

After years of resistance the Southie veterans finally acknowledge their gay brothers and sisters.

Boston Celebrates End of Ban as Gays March in St. Patrick’s Parade

This annual snub was painful for many of my Irish-American friends who felt cut adrift from their heritage by the homophobes who controlled this parade.

It is good that the fight is over and that the battle has been won. Victory for kindness and inclusion. The old guard departs.

These old guys were right bastards about it too.

Now, that is all in the past.

Staying here

Where I live, this is a very big deal.

Obama Said to Plan Moves to Shield 5 Million Immigrants

It is something they are thinking about. But I can't help believing that it is a trial balloon. The NYT is practically a house organ of this administration. Is that with a capital? Administration. It ought to be.

I have no way of knowing who is legal and who is not around here. Which is fine with me. The border is porous as it ought to be. Like with Canada.

Although there will be a quick rejoinder to that one. Some believe that Canadians are like us and Mexicans are not.

I do not share that belief. Anymore than I make a distinction between French Canadians and the other kind. Anglo.

Of course there is a lot to do with vote counting here. But it is always about vote counting so why not.

I do know that families are split by the border. Not good.

One of the times I am most aware of the border is when I do interviews for MIT. Kids from Mexico are treated just the same way in our work but they are not the same. They fall under "international" which could be good for them in terms of quotas. Which no one admits to.

A lot of kids live on the other side of the border and come to school on this side. It is allowed. And not just in private school. Where there is a will there will be a way.

I knew nothing about any of this before I moved out here. It was an awakening.

I did not know that some so called white Americans are hostile to Mexican people. It is the same as blacks. They are called ugly names and thought to be dirty and prone to large families and other sins which when you think of it is a lot of uninformed hooey.

Of course, as a bleeding heart liberal I am probably supporting bad elements and betraying my roots.

Which happen to be German through and through. And hillbilly. As well as cunnerman. Don't ask about that last one. It is considered to be a euphemism for poor whites in the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania. It is based on the long ago family name of "Counterman" who were thought to be, well, you know, cunnermen. When I was a kid that was the local "nigger". Too bad for the cunnermen that had no blacks to pick on. And only one jewish family. I won't get into what they called that kid in school.

We all grow up with it. Sick prejudice based on race, ethnicity, income, and, in my instance, sexual orientation.

It is not hard to identify with a greaser when I am thought of as a fairy, a queer, a homo or a cocksucker. And by some members of my own family! Arthur R., where are you now? I still remember your nasty mouth.

It is all the same thing. The haters are always the same. And they are boring as hell too.

Enough said

A straight man gains some more perspective on how gays deal with hetero-religious bullshit.

Very touching. Filled with love. A great brother, I would say. It is viral with "the gays".

so much for that

Early enthusiasm about the gayish views of the new pope was misguided.

Pope Francis Excommunicates Australian Priest Who Advocated For Gay Marriage And Female Clergy

Sorry.

Sometimes my optimism runs away with itself.

Nothin' goin' on here folks, move along. Francis is the same old homophobe as the last one, maybe worse because of the false signals.

Shoulda' read the fine print.

We do watch what you bastards do you know. Walk the fucking talk, Frank.

Also found this.

NOT SO GAY

This is great. What it means to say "that's so gay".

And what it does not mean.

Hey. We have come a long way.

When my kids were young, the word "faggot" was used indiscriminately to describe the same stuff that is now "so gay".

That f-word is seldom heard anymore. Well, not in good company. "So gay" is used a lot of places where people presume they are good company. Not.

MORE

If you are interested.

Ed Koch and the Corruption of the Gay Closet

Michaelangelo Signorile

And that will be the fat lady singing at Ed's funeral.

What is clear, however, is that Ed Koch's closet turned him into a monster, harming and abusing those around him while turning his back on suffering and mass death.

Labels: ,

NOT THE HOMO

More about the late not-great Ed Koch's dance with death. Not his, the ten thousand people who died of AIDS on his watch without any support from their mayor or his administration.

Ed Koch and the Cost of the Closet

The Nation.

This makes the point that Koch out of the closet would never have become mayor.

True.

But since he was mayor and missed his "calling", closeted or not, Ed Koch does not deserve the accolades he has received. But that is how it works. There is political payback even after the grave and Koch still has a lot of people who owe him. Bill Clinton was one.

I don't want to tear him down either. He did that himself with his self serving bullshit for the rest of his life afterwards. Pugnacious and unwilling to admit any error.

Us gays have a special dark place in our hearts for the closet guys who tightened their door locks at the expense of other gays.

When my husband came out, he worked for the City of Boston and while he was widely accepted and applauded by most, the closet people were particularly mean and vindictive. He was a threat. As though he was going to point them out or anything.

So, as it says here, Koch deserves a corner of gay hell for his transgressions and it is all over but the burning and don't expect me to be happy about either his "feistiness" (nasty bitter old queen stuff, quite familiar) or his other accomplishments. I am an unrepentant bigot when it comes to the homo who hides.

In one of Koch's favorite phrases of his enemies, "fuck 'em".

BULL SHIT

This is new but not surprising.

Mitt Romney Was A Bully

Still is, I imagine.

I have a lefty friend in the gym who, somehow, likes to think that Romney is really a nice guy. How this can be reconciled with his harsh record, I don't know.

Gene is a kind man but badly disillusioned, I think.

My own conception is that Romney is a prick.

Have you ever seen him go after a person who asked him the "wrong" question in one of those town meeting things. Brutal.

Same with reporters or other dimwits who do not agree with him.

He has that "nice" overlay which, as I have experienced all Mormons do, which prevents one from hating their guts as they rip yours out.

He has doubled down on gay marriage, his opposition. Usually he hides his motives which are of the old homophobic variety. And so on.

PERRY WINKLE II

I am sure that I used this headline before but I like it. So, again.

Perry is now first in the Gallup Poll. He has pretty much raised all his support from Bachman who is now fourth but that is not what I am writing about.

I am writing about Perry's book from four years ago which is filled with every kind of right wing madness which makes him almost totally unelectable. Look for a slide, soon.

Perry Equates Homosexuality With Alcoholism

Since I am both a homosexual, happily so, and a sober alcoholic, grateful, I think I may qualify on this equation.

Well, no, I am not because it is non-sense.

It is true that an alcoholic is undone by the first drink ("one is too many and a thousand isn't enough") but the being a queer part is not relevant.

Saying no to ones sexual drives has one effect only. They increase until satisfied. If they are not satisfied they turn into closet behavior and pathology. Often a self loathing which turns people into homophobes. Many of the worst gay bashers are repressed "cases".

This is an interesting item from the book which has a host of howlers pandering to the wing nuts.

Interesting because, for years, there have been rumors about Perry's sex life. Some walks on the bi-side. See yesterdays posting.

There is an ad extant right now. see above.

Maybe he has just been saying "no" too. In any case he is a homophobe. Maybe not raging. But it is pretty well imbedded. Time will tell.

If someone does come forth, he can always say that he got born again, again.

I don't know or care if Perry has ever sucked dick. It might turn out that he has only het-skeletons in his closet. If he is gay or straight, he deserves to have some support and privacy. Of course he will get that from his christer friends.

ONE FLAG CAN DRIVE YOU NUTS

Rainbow Flag Goes Up, Letters Flow In

One nice thing about being gay is that our very presence can piss some people off. Couple that with a display of pride, a flag, an award, a march and some people go off the charts. Bat shit crazy.

The Federal Reserve is private institution. Not many people know that. So we will give them a few points on the hate scale for ignorance. But then they still come up stupid and uninformed.

This one guy in the article is a particularly blatant example of homophobia run riot.

We are happy to do our part. Bring out the nut-cases.

Fortunately because of this kind of support from the places where we work, more people than ever support our causes.

Out is best.
