The second Gettysburg Address
Trying to channel the founder of his Party, Trump made an ass of himself again today on hallowed ground.
Donald Trump Pledges to ‘Heal Divisions’ (and Sue His Accusers)
A master of the mixed message, Trumpf fumbled his way across the quiet fields to make another asshole statement about his beliefs and promises. Pretty fucking shallow that.
I should quit reading. I already voted. It is moot with me. But for a guy who likes to throw the word "disgraceful" around, he sure manages to model the behaviors. A dick.
Did I say that before?
Probably.
Donald Dick.
Quack quack.

Deplorability: Putin edition
I don't think there was anything wrong about Clinton's "deplorable" remark.
But then I am biased.
But, for awhile, I thought perhaps it was pretty harsh rhetoric and might backfire on her politically.
Apparently, not so much.
Mike Pence Is Rebuffed as He Tries to Rally G.O.P. Leaders Over ‘Deplorables’
He ran head on into a buzz saw. John McCain for one.
The discontent of Senators and other responsible Republicans has been kept under wraps but now it seems to burst forth as Trump tries to get a more robust support from traditional allies.
Nope.
What Pence heard was some really tough talk back. John McCain particularly criticized Trump's embrace of Putin. Somehow the Donald forgot that there are still a lot of cold-warriors left in his Party who don't cotton to such soft talk.
Especially those who, like McCain, are running for re-election in a tough talk State.
It is all rather amusing to see. It shows neophyte Trump left high and dry with his own isolation from his Party. Now, when he needs some love and support, nowhere to turn.
Like it or not, we have a two party system and outliers or renegades like Trump will be roundly punished for such transgressions.

Backlash
Even their brethren can't stand the stink of the christers.GOPers Leave Meeting When Member Reads Bible Verse On Homosexuality
Good that other GOoPers are offended by this ranting and roaring homophobic nonsense.
And a prayer read aloud too.
Oh well.
I know, they are probably Mormons in the cartoon. Same thing.
I was OK for awhile. Taking a break from the religious nuts.
But at election time you just can't avoid them.
Besides, they are ridiculous.
If there weren't so many of them, it would be funny.
Ignorance is not always bliss. It is downright dangerous.

Cruz controlled
Ted Cruise went out like he came in.
Entitled, belligerent, ungrateful and spiteful.
Of course, I am only taking this from Frank Bruni's unforgiving hatchet job in the NYTImes.
I believe that Ted Cruz is among those poor souls who cannot see themselves as others see them.
I have read that he is pretty much a flaming asshole and had built no coalitions in the Senate.
I am not sure how I feel about collations but if you are a Senator and want to stay that way, you build coalitions.
They did not like him. No one does apparently.
When we talk about people not liking a candidate we mean this on fairly benign terms. The Clinton ego, yes. But the good side of this is also evident and praised. Kasich was a nice guy who finished last. Remember Mitt? Likable even if he was a bit earnest. I certainly never disliked the "him" underneath.
But the thing with Cruz is visible. Coulcn't he ever see, did no one ever tell him about his smarm. his sneer, his wolfish glare.
It reminds me of the old saying that "no one likes a smart ass". OK.
Will anyone miss him?

Melting potty
Here it is in one huge non-issue.
The idea of banning "transgender" folks from restrooms.
I leave that open as to gender because, as it turns out, it is pretty hard to spot a transgender person. First some have "become" men and others "women". I only use the quotes to indicate the ending point of their search for gender identity.
Let's start with the bathroom itself.
That is a whole lot simpler.
There are many places that already have one bathroom for all. I go to a public meeting room three days a week. There are two bathrooms there. Each has a man and a woman on the sign. Gender various.
I go in and pee and a woman comes in to pee after me. Either order.
Just like home. One hole for all.
Most people do not have their own separate gender bathroom in their house. Do they? Maybe the crazy right does. Let's go into their homes and check them out. They like the policing idea.
OK. Right.
The next thing. I know a few transgender people. They are seldom "visible". You would not know!
I know one person who is in transition. We know because s/he was male and now is moving in the direction of being a female. That is the only reason we can tell. But the "look" is changing rapidly. She seems a bit tall but not really. That is my eye lying to me. And my memory. I have to remind myself of who s/he used to be. I do not know which bathroom s/he uses. It is none of my fucking business.
Honestly? When it is pretty clear that they are one-holers I have used a female designated toilet. Necessity requires. How many other men have? A lot. Be honest. Women too.
Yes. There is the issue of kids. What is the issue? Sending them into a public bathroom alone.
Here, the solution is to find a gender neutral toilet. I have had to take my kids in to pee. It is a little creepy to take a little girl into a mens room. Or for me to go into the Ladies to let her be "correct".
It is all horseshit really.
Sure, there are pedophiles but most of them are not using the toilet at McDonalds. They are lurking in the parks or playgrounds handing out lollypops.
Donald Trump, who manages and builds real estate has had the best answer to this. He said that it was a solution in search of a problem.
Not so his opponents. It is a tiresome feature of the GOoPer, many of them, that sex is a hot issue. Mostly embarrassing or blaming. It is the religious nut side of the GOoPer.
Oh well. Good for The Donald. If I was a Repub I would vote for him.

Senator on GOP backing Trump: 'Party has gone batshit crazy'
Of course I like this. Lindsay Graham is an old hand, an old guard GOP guy. I like him. The loyal opposition.
He is dismayed.
This is the party of no-party now. It has wallowed and wavered into the hands of the nuts and extremists.
There is no strong party structure to reign it in although lord knows they have tried.
For awhile, I found this amusing. But now? Not so much.
One could argue that the Republicans brought this on themselves. But that is just an empty jibe.
The fact is that their disarray is indicative of their complete defeat under the Obama Presidency. They cannot or do not legislate. They engage in partisan bitch slapping. They wiggle and waver.
That said, there is not a lot of life left in either Party. The Clintons have re-engaged the Democrats so that a guy like Sanders does not have a chance.
I am not a historian but it would seem that the two party system is dead. Long live the no-party system?
At least on the Democrat side, the Clintons will not engage in fratricide as Trump is doing.
His 25%, unwavering. The malcontents. Ironically, the no-nothing guys in the uneducated class.
The poor guys favor the guy who inherited 200 mill and has made bucks off their backs since day one.
Oh well.

The witch is dead.
Supreme Court Justice Scalia dies
He was a hateful man. Filled with personal animus and venom Scalia was an enemy of progressives but took it up another notch with his blatant homophobia. Never missing the nasty aside or biased opinion.
So, OK.
That opens the door.
There seems to be some doubt that the GOP in the Senate would confirm an Obama appointee before the next general election.
Well, that is the fucking point isn't it.
I normally do not make judgements about public figures who state their beliefs in a reasonable way. But Scalia was anything but reasonable.
Our country is better off with his loss.
And if that seems too harsh, then fuck you too.

Fallout
The GOoPers could not find their asses with both hands.
And they want to govern?
G.O.P.: Save Your Candidates From Themselves
Apparently there is no Republican Party. Just a collection of non-democrats who are gunning for themselves and fuck you if you do not like it.
This is not surprising.
It is how they ran the country ever since Eisenhower. When they had a chance.
And even Ike had his smattering of self inflicted nonsense.
I remember. I was just a little kid but I was fascinated with politics just then because I still wanted to be President.
But sure as fuck not a Republican. I tried it for awhile because in Pennsylvania, local politics are party-partisan and the Democrats were hopelessly corrupt in and around Philadelphia.
Now, we see that there is no party. More of a sponsoring organization for a bunch of individual "monarchies" of power.
It has to be embarrassing to watch this.
Of course, at the center is the Donald, the great disrupter. He is a master of it. And to the sides the dower witch doctor and the frantic Texas Senator. The Kentucky guys have faded. At least they had a semblance of normalcy.
I do not mind all this. Here is your bag of popcorn. Enjoy the show.
Ten goddam presidential aspirants. Not one of them fit to govern. And anyone who has governmental experience gets disparaged for being a tool.

Blame the messenger(s)
A standard Republican line is that they are the victims of a biased media.
They seem to miss the fact that the bias, if any, is toward showing the world as it is rather than the world that the GOoPers wish it could be.
It is no news that there is bias in reporting. Duh.
But the Repubs have turned it into a stem winding talking point.
Why does this work?
I think it works because it hits right at the paranoia and personal discomfort of their audience.
I have known wingers since I was a young man. In the army, the rant and rave of a guy over the "reds" and so on.
They never seem to pause and think that the "bias" may often just be straight on reporting of the dither that they dish as their standard rhetoric.
Anger Over Debate Fills Iowa Republican Forum
Look. There he is, obese and gasping it out. Christie.
Do they ever consider that a lot of this is based on self hatred? The finger pointing out because they can't look at themselves?
He is a classic fat boy who has probably had a hard life because of it. He is not the only wounded boy now trying for the big prize. Carson's is obvious. Black and lost professional goals. Early retirement. Ted Cruz, a bastard for a father. And so on. Take a look.
Are Democrats neurotic? Sure. Bill Clinton is our poster child and Hillary his standard bearer. That is their story.
But, come on. I have a lot of shit in my history too. I am looking for recognition. I have always wanted to be "class president" just to "show them". Sometimes I succeeded. A lot of appointments, the easiest way to get power. One election.
Some think this is an easy road. It is not. Try driving past your monster campaign poster every day on the Boston SE expressway and see if it is not an ego boost and a simultaneous anxiety hit.
Politicians are like actors. Working through their shit the best way that they can.
More power to them. There are a lot of sick fucks on the sidelines who will never step out and take the heat. Their wounds are disabling. Their sourness is sad.
The politician works it out. Sublimates to do good works. Or at least works s/he thins are good. More power to them.
Oh. And, by the way, do you really think that we are going to elect an obese president? No way fat boy. You are a schmuck not because you are fat but because you can't see over it and look at yourself.
There. That is my bit of biased venom for today.

See it and weep
This is a little video about the people who like Ben Carson as a candidate for President.

GOP flop sweat
If anyone doubts that the next presidential election is upon us, read this.
A Hearing, and a House, as Divided as the Country Watching It
You will learn a lot.
With a constant sheen of flop sweat on his brow, the inestimable Chairman Trey Gowdy attempted to push the noodle across the room so that it landed on Clinton's lap.
Unfortunately, she unmanned him early and he never quite recovered.
She was cool as a cucumber and even drew a good belly laugh at one point which pissed the GOoPers off. No one was out to have any fun here, goddammit.
Of course these are second or third stringers in the Republican game. Off the bench and over their heads.
She stayed sober and sane throughout, respecting even the most errant nonsense. Cool as a cucumber and nicely patient as seen in this photo.
At least that is how I see it.
Watch the video in the Times article to see a blow by blow.

Rep. Carlos Curbelo: Trump is 'a phantom candidate recruited by the left'
On the other hand, The Donald is a gift that keeps giving. And from what I see in my limited half hour survey while on the gym bike, he is getting a lot, a whole lot, of coverage.
If nothing else he is like a siren monopolizing the sound waves so that all saner voices are cancelled out.
Of course, the whole thing is a vanity project for him but I do not think he sees it that way. He genuinely thinks that he is "the man".
He forgets that his success was off his Dad and the Trump organization. Brash and egoistic, he will cut a wide swath in the debates.
He was Number One in the field this morning on Gallup's polling.

Coming soon
It is very exciting to realize that in just a matter of weeks the first Presidential Debates will occur.
Gail Collins reports:
Time flies when you’re having fun. Memorial Day weekend, the Fourth of July and then, the next thing you know, it will be Aug. 6, the anniversary of the bombing of Hiroshima and the date of the first Republican presidential debate. Less than 11 weeks away! True, 11 weeks is nearly twice the length of the entire national election schedule in the United Kingdom. But this is why we had the Revolutionary War. “It’s actually not early,” said a Republican National Committee spokeswoman. “Four years ago the debates started in May.” Think about that, people. This presidential campaign is slow getting started.
What is fun about it in addition to the event itself is that there can only be 10 (TEN) candidates in the debate. At last count there are "somewhere between 15 and 2,376" candidates". No one knows how many.
Here we show Fox' best guess and as they are unofficial house organ of the right, there opinion counts for something.
Fox likes to say "we report, you decide". How will they decide this, the Republicanos?
The GOopers are in a fix right now. There may be laughter about the Demos only having one candidate, sort of, and that it is a legacy thing. But there is something that says "stability" about that.
I am not sure if this rattle the Jebbie camp at all but it might just cause a bit of a stir. His message will not be clear, his momentum cannot even start. The legacy in this case is a bad one even among the Republicans. They haven't yet asked what we think of him.
We will maintain our silence on that subject today.

Rubio
More GOoPer malfeasance.
I suppose it is unfair that this all got exposed but he has put himself on the line for scrutiny.
A top GOP 2016 contender is 'living above his means'
Embarrassing but there it is.
Ambition is a bitch and I can see how priorities would get a little skewed.
I do not want a country that can only elect rich people. That is not the point. The issue is that his spending habits go against all the railing and ranting about other people. Welfare spongers and the like.
Like Fiorina who I have written about below, exposure to the big time is one of the first qualifiers for elective success and some just fail out of the box.
Living within one's means is a frequent tirade on the part of the wing nuts.
OK. Let's apply that equally, all around.
Rubio is an interesting guy but it might be a mistake to take him too seriously. A lot of these guys are gunning for something other than the nomination. Publicity. Notoriety. Groundwork for a serious later try for the position.
Or, maybe just the gabble of attention. That is a lot of what politics is about. Sure issues, but it takes people who need to be in the spotlight.
My own personal experience in politics was clearly about "look at me". I admit it. A lot of folks don't.
I got into a field, management training, where I did some good and managed to be in the limelight, three days at a time with captive audiences.
There is a buzz. And nothing wrong about it. Just make sure that the thing can be sustained. If it takes talent, have that. If it takes the support of a big organization, have that. If it takes money, well, you better have that too. I got paid for being a star. Politicians do too. A different paymaster but still.

Back and forth
Busy day for Jeb Bush and a lot of coverage in this blog!
Jeb Bush now says, ‘I would not have gone into Iraq’
Waffling.
A Jebbie habit.
I am sure that Jeb is not watching me but I am surely watching him.
I am so glad we are starting 2016 early! I was beginning to think my political ranter was dead and dying. Or at least dried up.
These are the times that try GOoPer souls.
And, you heard it here first: John Bolton Announces He is Not Running for Presient

Amateur hour
This is funny.
Presidential Candidate Ted Cruz Forgot to Procure TedCruz.com L.O.L.
LOL indeed.
Ted better tighten up his ship if he hopes to sail it into the GOP sunset.
Which it will be.
The setting of their sun.
Again.
Just sayin'.
It is still a little early to turn up the mockery machine but targets like this one are so delicious it is hard not to get it out of the closet.
The Repubs are going to have a lot of fun going into their primary and it has to gall some of the established icons of the party to put up with an upstart like Ted.
Couldn't happen to a nicer bunch of people.

Boner
I am fascinated by the invitation from John Boehner to Netanyahu.
Apparently so are a lot of other people.
Forbes Destroys John Boehner in Scathing Smackdown
To say that John Boehner is a shitty Speaker is an understatement. One look at the shifty eyes would be enough. The fake suntan. The closet smoking. And that is without even hearing him say the things he does or see them. Snaky.
This goes beyond my normal distaste for the Wachington in fighting. It is an outright "fuck you" to our head of State.
And then, Bibi. Another snaky bastard. Manipulative. Liar. All of it.
The two together are a set. Wolves.
I don't want to rant on about it. No one seems to be paying attention to this side of things. But the sleaze factor of it is very high.
I can imagine that Obama could actually give less of a shit about it. In a way it works for him. He does not have to be in a room with the bastard. Either of them, actually.
Just sit back and watch the fun.
