Jebbie

I am not too surprised by the lackluster performance of Jeb (!) Bush.

He is a wonk. He was always a wonk. He will always be one.

Color is not in his repertoire.

Of course, this is not a bad thing. But to be so bland and colorless as to disappear on the stage with other really lesser political hacks takes a certain kind of self denial.

I read that he was stepping on his tip toes in the photo to look taller.

Jeezuz Jeb! Who told you to do that? Mom?

And then he stood next to Mr. Color, the ego-master Trump. He even managed to make Jeb look lackluster by saying that he had more energy tonight. A left handed compliment if there ever was one.

This is interesting.

Jeb! Bush tries to spin momentum out of not totally crashing and burning in debate

I have been watching the three news nets every morning for a long time. Jeb has not even appeared on them in the last days. Fiorina? Yes, yes, yes. Trump? Of course. A little of Carson who is really a handsome charismatic man. He looks presidential. Far more so than any of the rest of them.

I guess Mom Barb was right. We have had enough Bushes.

Why this will be fun

One thing about Donald Trump is that he is unorthodox.

Unpredictable. About to say anything and everything. He is not beholden to anyone.

He is working this immigrant thing pretty hard.

And he is pinning the tail on Jeb while he is doing it.

Donald Trump: Jeb Bush should be 'speaking English while in the United States'

Land 'o goshen.

Donald is diving for the nuts. Not nice. But probably very effective.

Jeb has a hispanic wife. He is bi-lingual. Normally a good thing. But the skill of a bully like Trump is to find the good qualities and make them look bad. Then tie some tin cans on the tail of the guy he is trying to beat.

The rules of politics as understood by the political class preempt this sort of behavior.

But Trump doesn't mind.

Under his skin

Jebbie is discomforted.

I suspect this is a new condition for the pampered, mom-promoted bushie.

A Once-Sunny Jeb Bush Appears Irked in Donald Trump’s Shadow

Chuckle chuckle.

The "good bush" is having some problems staying above water.

I suspect, partly, that he is a kind of empty vessel. So cool, so undaunted. An easy time as a governor of one of least states, Florida.

A glad hander, a pandering smile. I could go on but I will not.

Let's face it, Jeb is not presidential timber. Or timbre either. Some argument about which one is meant in the cliché.

He is certainly not George W., thank heaven. And certainly not his Dad who wasn't all that bad really.

It would appear that they are keeping the harridan Mom out of the picture. Good thing.

The last thing he needs now is one of her smart ass comments like the one she made a few years ago about there having been "enough Bushes".

You go girl.

Blood in the water

Trump, as predicted, is already disrupting.

Trump: 'Jeb's answer ... on women's health issues is a disaster'

Which is one of the advantages of having The Donald in there.

He has no inhibitions, he has nothing to lose really. And he is in for the duration. Even if Jebbie gets the nomination, it is likely that Donald will be in the way.

The interesting thing about Trump is that he is a headline guy. No details. The large assertion. Easy to hear, no thinking required. He has his own money is not beholden to any of the bastards who run the GOP.

No coronations this time around.

It couldn't happen to a nicer guy. And I mean that. I think that Jeb is a good guy with a family that will not let him sit by and just be a business man. There is the legacy. There is the family pride.

There is, most emphatically, Barbara.

She has always been the power behind the candidates. Fierce. Determined.

Her family nickname is "Bushy". So she carries the family torch.

They are royalty and like all royalty the crown(s) are most fiercely defended by those who marry into the job.

And so on. There will be a lot more.

In the meantime, I bet they are all going nuts at the endurance of Trump. This morning he was at 24% to Jeb's 16 or something. Don't take my word for it. It doesn't matter now anyway.

Jeb!

One of the more amusing aspects of the Jeb campaign is the appropriation of the exclamation mark after his name.

I suppose it is/was to avoid our thinking that it was another Jeb. Not that Jeb but this one!

Or, perhaps, in a more subtle way it is a distinction from the other Bushes.

Not just another goddam Bush, but Jeb!

Some politico's bright idea.

I am amused because it is only one sign of his trying to dodge the fact of his being a legacy candidate.

Of course, Clinton is a legacy candidate too.

This is nothing new in American politics.

Way back, the Harrison's had a ride. And various Roosevelts. Well two of them. And so on.

Royal families.

So far the Clintons may be royal but they are not yet into the second generation. Or the third.

Honing

Happy to see Hillary getting out the crowd and revving them up.

She filled the island.

I love the stage. Her logo. Also the blue suit and Bill along with a red tee shirt. The first spouse in waiting. Their love of the scramble is easy to see. Great visuals.

Also happy to see that Jebbie is having trouble. Shaky. Jeb Bush Works to Recover From a Shaky Start

It couldn't happen to a nicer guy.

It is said here that his stuttery start has had the effect of putting him back in the very crowded pack. Still a bit ahead in the polls I see almost every morning on CNN but still back in the pack.

Back and forth

Busy day for Jeb Bush and a lot of coverage in this blog!

Jeb Bush now says, ‘I would not have gone into Iraq’

Waffling.

A Jebbie habit.

I am sure that Jeb is not watching me but I am surely watching him.

I am so glad we are starting 2016 early! I was beginning to think my political ranter was dead and dying. Or at least dried up.

These are the times that try GOoPer souls.

And, you heard it here first: John Bolton Announces He is Not Running for Presient

I had forgotten him. Hadn't everyone else?

Well, yes. Now.

My good god he has an ego on him as big as a house. Two houses. John Fucking Bolton.

Defender of the faith and ex-UN delegate.

Collins-ized

Jeb Bush gets the treatment from Gail Collins today.

Wow! Jeb Bush is Awful

She was cutting him some slack, but now has pulled that slack back in.

The problem is not so much what Jeb thinks as that he is so foolish for saying it out loud.

We know that as a Bush he has to think like a Bush but now we can see that the built in patrician arrogance will play out in the foot in mouth area as well.

What is this all about? I think that my theory of privileged people is in operation here.

Privileged people have never been questioned closely about their behavior or their beliefs. For one thing, they do not allow themselves to be exposed to difference. They have a moat of their own which keeps them from the world as it is. And they are often tone deaf to regular people's reactions to current events.

Think of it. Politics is their family business. They have had a high degree of success at it. The success has brought a kind of arrogance of thought. They have come to believe themselves special.

And so on.

Ask Barbara Bush. She is an expert of the pitfalls of entitlement. Smug, yes. But smart.

What's in a name?

Jebbie is going to have a lot of trouble with his last name.

As his mother once said, the country has had enough Bushes. Barbara Bush, always outspoken, often right.

Brother’s Past Proves Tricky for Jeb Bush

I would think so.

The thing that surprises me is that like whack-a-mole, they are still trying. It must be in the genetic makeup.

Who are they trying to impress? Poppy? Barb?

There is a necessary strain of self entitlement in any politician. But with the bushies it runs deep.

More power to them. It is a spectacle. Our Borgias.

The scent

This is way early to talk about the GOPriimary.

But let's talk about it anyway.

This from a guy at the Christian Science Monitor:

Is Jeb Bush already the next Mitt Romney?

In brief, he is happy there are primary candidates because he thinks that makes for an exciting race.

So, no, Jeb is not Mitt. Right. OK.

It is informative and fun to read. All the young GOoPers.

He has some jabs for Hillary too. Her attempt to be a proletarian leader. He thinks buying a Chipotle is all a stunt and he is probably right but who knows. Who cares?

Everyone cares now. That is the fun of it. It is early but it is not early. The run is always on. It is just now going retail.

Look, here is an example. Mike fucking Huckabee. Driving the race.

Mike Huckabee Would Be a More Important Candidate Than You Might Think

It is a fascinating article. Read it and get nuggets that will make you hungry for the campaign too.

Or not. If you are a fan, then, OK. If not, be a bit lonely on this blog for a year and half or more.
