Jeb! has brought in W in South Carolina.

I do not even want to write about this but the desperation and flop sweat around this is palpable. Smellable.

Georgie ruined the Bush brand.

He did do well in South Carolina but shit. Almost any right wing white man would.

I have watched the family around this.

Barb, good name for her, barbed wire, is 90 now.

She is the one who said, famously, that "we have had enough Bushes"

Barb has the fixed smile of a rattlesnake. It seems to me that is where all the starch comes from. All the guys are wimps. Rich wimps but wimps nonetheless.

I do not want to go on about this too long. It gives them more credence than they have or deserve.

I saw one of their hangers-on talking on the teevee at the gym this morning. Going on about how there actually could have been some weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. I-rack, you all.

They are still pumping that lie.

Someone. Please. Put Barb and the rest of them out of their misery.

Jeb Bush gets the treatment from Gail Collins today.

Wow! Jeb Bush is Awful

She was cutting him some slack, but now has pulled that slack back in.

The problem is not so much what Jeb thinks as that he is so foolish for saying it out loud.

We know that as a Bush he has to think like a Bush but now we can see that the built in patrician arrogance will play out in the foot in mouth area as well.

What is this all about? I think that my theory of privileged people is in operation here.

Privileged people have never been questioned closely about their behavior or their beliefs. For one thing, they do not allow themselves to be exposed to difference. They have a moat of their own which keeps them from the world as it is. And they are often tone deaf to regular people's reactions to current events.

Think of it. Politics is their family business. They have had a high degree of success at it. The success has brought a kind of arrogance of thought. They have come to believe themselves special.

And so on.

Ask Barbara Bush. She is an expert of the pitfalls of entitlement. Smug, yes. But smart.

Jebbie is not like his brother which is a good thing as far as I am concerned but is probably a bad thing as far as the ideologues and other bushemies in the Republicos.

First, he is kinda wimpy looking. Those glasses. And he has a record of somewhat "liberal" actions in his home state. Sort of.

The other thing is that George had that bad boy look, the leer, the side of the mouth grin. Jeb has none of that.

Jeb is soft. A bit tubby. A bit wimpy. Not OK with the knuckle draggers.

Jeb is the kid that the bullies would have beat up on.

Just watch.

RELIVING THE PAST

I don't much like dredging up the past but, in this case, I will.

I know that some readers cringed when I said that the bushers were pushing a theocracy. That there was more than a little christer driving his and their stuff.

Slowly this will all come out in believable form. Today is the first good memoir I have seen. That means someone who was there, who is believable and who doesn't have too big an axe to grind.

From Fran Townsend, George Bush's assistant for homeland security and counterterrorism, when White House chief of staff Andy Card called during Hurricane Rita to ask her what she needed:

Well, maybe not. But now we all have a better idea.

LEGACY

I only have a little more time to kick bush while he is down. After he leaves the office he will be gone. That's even better.

But for now, let's work him over one more time.

While they are trying to burnish the record of the worst president in my life if not the life of the country, no one is buying it.

BUSH LEGACY PROJECT FACES RESISTANCE

Now, everyone obviously knows that Bush is extremely unpopular, and has been for quite some time, but it's helpful to pause once in a while to appreciate just how despised this president is. We're witnessing something truly historical here.

Consider, for example, the question of post-presidential contributions. Eight years ago, 55% of Americans wanted to see Bill Clinton remain active in public life. For Bush, the number is 33%. The country, in other words, not only wants Bush to go away, but we don't want to see him popping up from time to time, either.

Eric Kleefeld went through some of the internals and found widespread distaste for Bush on every level. Americans don't like him, don't trust him, don't think he cares about them, and don't admire him. The public doesn't think Bush united the country, doesn't think he brought about the change we needed, and believes he failed to manage the government effectively.

The scope of the public's disdain for Bush is almost impressive.

This is the guy that bush trashed when he disagreed with the admin-iraq policy.

Rumsfeld nemesis Shinseki to be named VA secretary

As it happens he was right and the bushies were wrong. A nicely placed slap in the face to both W and Rummy. And Shinseki will be great at it.

The VA is not doing its job. The bushies have defunded it as the scandal about caring for wounded troops grows.

Another military guy in the Obama administration. And an Asian American. The first to reach 4 star rank.

Obama said he chose Shinseki for the VA post because he "was right" in predicting that the U.S. will need more troops in Iraq than Rumsfeld believed at the time.

"When I reflect on the sacrifices that have been made by our veterans and I think about how so many veterans around the country are struggling even more than those who have not served—higher unemployment rates, higher homeless rates, higher substance abuse rates, medical care that is inadequate—it breaks my heart," Obama told NBC.

Shinseki, 66, is slated to take the helm of the government's second largest agency, which was roundly criticized during the Bush administration for underestimating the amount of funding needed to treat thousands of injured veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan.

EARNING LOYALTY

If I learned anything in managing others it was that others could not be expected to be loyal per se. Self interest would always intercede.

I also learned the important corollary that loyalty should be earned by the leader.

This goes for Presidents too.

I am glad that Obama doesn't care about loyalty. Bush did. Very much. To a fault.

Here is Harry Reid saying 'no thanks'.

There's already a process in place to continue negotiations, and it "would not be helpful at this time to have them come back during these negotiations and risk injecting presidential politics into this process or distract important talks about the future of our nation's economy. If that changes, we will call upon them. We need leadership; not a campaign photo op."

He was up 9 points this morning on the WaPo/ABC poll. A good running start on it.

I remember the first time I wrote about this slug. He wasn't very well known.

I like to think that I was an early shit detector. Actually, he exposed himself.

It was way back in the first Bush administration when we began to realize that things just might not turn out like the bushies said they would.

They started with the big lie and, today, we reap the results.

It is a sad business.

Rove is still out of custody. Bush is still in.

But their legacy is in tatters.
