Alt what?
A new term in the political slang book: "Alt-right".
What?
Come again?
That's right. Ahem. It has come again.
Instead of white bedsheets, now it wears the business suit. Well, maybe more preppy than banker.
Here is a good rundown of what it is all about.
When I was a kid, there was still a Klan around where we lived. My Uncle Pete had put the sheet on as a younger man.
A spooky, cross burning, racist bunch of guys, no women, who were acting out some fantasies of retribution on the establishment.
Sound familiar?
Now they are still around.
My Uncle Pete mellowed out and mostly held forth from his easy chair about the world in general. I loved him dearly.
He would listen to the radio news commentators and augment or argue with the people in the current program. All men, of course.
The bed sheets gave way to radio and then radio to some television. You can probably see some of these guys appearing here and there now. They look fine. All scrubbed up. Some, out from under a rock. Most, legitimate believers in what they have had served to them and now repeat themselves.
Race is still one of our biggest problems. It is still being legislated, discussed, alluded to and put into secret violent forms
God help us.

Righteous bullshit
The NYTimes has a good column on the hypocrisy of the "christian" right and their support of Donald Trump.
It pretty much takes apart the assholes who claim to be Christ's messengers on earth. The Evangelicals. It is hard to say that word without some spittle flying. Try "fucking Evangelicals".
You know, the money grubbers who use their righteousness to line their pockets with the coin of the gullible.
See, I am still pissed off at the church I grew up with and the bastards who let me down when I needed to have support as a gay kid. Or as a kid who had a future outside his small town and never went back.
The rollers, the pious, the holier than thou.
Fortunately my Dad helped me out with this. He went to church to pacify my mother but he never swallowed it whole.
Back to Trump.
I have noted here before the absence of any sign of religiosity on his part. Not that there is anything wrong with that. Until he and the others pretend otherwise.
To him it is all money and power. And that is where the interests intersect. Dobson, Falwell and that gang all go for the power and money. If you can swallow it just watch their acts on YouTube.
That guy in the photo? Falwell Junior? Would you buy a used car from that man? That is a "nope".

Answering the mail
A commenter mentions that I neglected Carson in my summation of the GOP candidates.
No. I didn't.
I just had to stop somewhere.
The list keeps changing all the time.
I used the CNN tabs for my summary.
The sad fact is that I don't know anything about Carson.Declared 2016 GOP candidate: Ben Carson. Ben Carson is the former director of pediatric neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins Children's Center in Baltimore. He was appointed to serve on the President's Council on Bioethics in 2004 by then-president George W. Bush.Aug 14, 2015
He was not included in the lineup that I consulted.
Another doctor. MD. Of some renown.
I suppose I could say a bit fat "so what". But that would be unkind.
In my own defense, I can only say that the list keeps shifting and somehow I did miss him.
Now that I have looked at him a bit, I would put him in a list of not-serious wing nuts who don't have a chance.

There. Job done.
Who else did I leave out. Sarah Palin is not running as far as I know.

Gay rights travel
It is not news that Russia is about as homophobic as any other place on earth other than, well, maybe there are a lot of places you can't come out.
From this, I gather that there is a long ways to go in the communist dream state.
After ‘Interns’ Star Came Out in Russia, a Mix of Fury and Shrugs
It took an American.
That will teach them.
It is a nice story. He is courageous because even his male costar is a professed homophobe.
Yet he plays a guy who has two gay fathers. Go figure. The Russkies like to play both sides against the middle these days.
I think that he is performing a public service. That his life could be in danger is not only too bad but a continuing disgrace in an ignorant world.
It is a good reminder about how far we have come and yet to go.
I do not kid myself. The good ole "land of the free" could slip back anytime. Look at the ones who are running for office.
Do you think Ted Cruz is going to let me live my life in peace? I doubt it. Seriously.

Refighting the war
Dick Cheney unleashed a lot of surprise reaction when he defended the Iraq war this week.Rand Paul: "Proponents of Iraq war responsible for current chaos".
A lot of Cheney's critics now include latter day Republicans and they have not come to his support.
He should probably kept his mouth shut.
But that is not Dick's way and his daughter is probably going to run for office again. It seems to be a vain attempt to do some slate cleaning before she has to do some defending of her father.
These people are still trying to sell an adventure that was long ago discredited and failed totally. To their everlasting disgrace.
I saw this video loop this morning and Cheney still does his schoolmarmish way of explaining why all his critics are wrong and he is right. He is so above it all that he is almost not there. And that is the problem with the Cheneys. They are in a parallel universe.

The moral majority
Governor Scott Walker is a particularly nasty piece of right wing work.
It is always nice to see the wing nuts hoist by their own petard. Or rhetoric.
Prosecutors Allege Scott Walker At Center Of Campaign Finance Criminal Conspiracy
It looks like one of the pimples on the republican ass will get squeezed.
Couldn't happen to a nicer guy.
I wouldn't normally go after these guys. Republicans are required for the vitality of the two party system.
But a lot of them are cranks and assholes. Often the anti-gay, morality spouting shit heads who play to the churchy right bigots.
It is always nice to see this type get their face messed up. Morality indeed.
And while we are at it, how about a swipe at Christie of New Jersey. The great white hope of the GOoPers.
Exclusive: Prosecutor is Closing in on Governor Christie
There is a fat joke lurking here but I will not go there.

Religious liberty
The US Catholic Bishops certainly have their heads up their asses.
We knew that.
I just like to repeat it.
