Hate based
The term "faith based" is such a pile of shit.
These are code words for hate group, discrimination supporters, homophobics and the like.
Now someone, not gay, is calling a halt to this double talk.
NFL Wants to Sack Anti-Gay Bill in Georgia
Unlikely allies? Not really.
The NFL is inclusive and does not want to be seen as even touching the sickness of the religious bigots. Or any bigots.
God is love. Great cover for the bastards who don't want some others to be happy. Twisted. Sick-os.
And so on.
Feel the rant.
There has been a wave of this coming as a way to wiggle through the clear mandates of the Supreme Court and other legal guardians.
There is no point going on about it.
That this is Georgia is a big deal. No more automatic knee jerk hatred from the South. The New South.

Papal bullshit
So the Pope's "people" don't want any queers at his gatherings here in the US.
Vatican Reportedly Irked by LGBT Guest List at Pope’s White House Ceremony
Irked.
You know that I have no patience for any of this nonsense. The dress up in girlie gowns and the excessive use of basically feminine symbols. The pope is as gay an institution as comes along. Just like "his" church.
"Infested" with queer priests, the roman church still tries to keep its closet doors tight and to screw everyone else's doors too.
And so on.
Rant, rant, rant. I just hate all this stuff.
It is none of my business why people buy into it all. The opera, the sideshow, the godless displays.
I will leave them to it.
But please, keep your mouth shut about the gay people who have had the courage to come out and be who they are despite the medieval hocus pocus of the man in the white coat whoever he currently is. I hear he turns magically into jesus or something. I know. That is not the truth but I can spread a rumor just like the next one.
What I cannot figure is why anyone who is gay would want to cuddle up to these monsters other than the fact that they retain the faint hope that some day these closet cases will somehow come out and bless the regular gay people who are not so fortunate to wear a funny outfit.
Not in my lifetime.
There that feels better. I have stifled my impatience over this masquerade for a long time. I know that there is a catholic reading this. Sorry. Your people are just jerks and there is no two ways around it.
I hope this is a picture of the current pope. Is it? They have been re-emerging a lot lately.

Cast out
He did it to himself.
Jimmy Carter: 'Losing My Religion For Equality'
This is a major turning point in the conversation between leading American patriots and their religious friends.
Carter has been a long and faithful member of the SBC / Southern Baptist Convention. Those right wing christers who frequently forget to separate church and state. Who have all the political leanings to the right and think nothing of it. To them it is dogma.
They are not to be confused with the ABC / The American Baptist Convention who can be quite liberal.
I played organ and led choir in an ABC church at one time and I can tell you they heard some new music and listened to some startling choral words. They were better than the Methodists who have now turned rightward when it came to the social gospel. My boss, a graduate of their seminary, Andover Newton, was a serious Chicago leftie. His politics. Not his pitching arm.
Those were good times.
We had some old timers in the choir and I respected their opinions. I was not averse to doing a rousing version of "The Old Rugged Cross" (I had a nifty modernized organ part and descant) and they enjoyed singing atonally and since often the words were actual scripture they got to "hear" their gospel from another direction.
The Southerners have long been a thorn in the side of American Protestant life. It is where many of the more objectionable evangelicals hail from.
This is quite a move. Earth shaking for those people.

Fanatics
So now it is ISIS.
Like mushrooms, poisonous ones, the muslim fundamentalists continue to sprout up.
I think that some of this stuff is cover for just crazy sociopaths who find fertile ground to connect with others like them. The fertile ground is the supremely fucked up middle east. They will come if you build it. And the Brits, Israel and its US friends have built it. A perfect incubator for acting out rage.
It is not without reason that they revolt and terrorize. We and our allies have made a fair fuckup of that part of the world.
Here is another take on the question of the fundamentalist.
Isis Is a Disgrace to True Fundamentalism
This guy is a Muslim fundamentalist. He is as appalled at the whole scene as I am.
His point is that these guys are not really serious about their religious beliefs. If they were they would realize that terror is not a tenet of Mohammed. They would be reined in by their daily spiritual practices.
And so on.
It is an interesting dilemma that we have not had to face here. Yes. There are nut cases who seize upon religion to do violence and perpetrate awful acts but not at this scale. They are quickly shown to be radical outliers or psychopaths. At least sociopaths. Almost all religions that I know of are built on the notion of restoring social order. Community. A body of belief.
The other factor here is political. Many of these people are stoked up by closet politicals who use the religious thing as a tool for manipulating support. Iran is full of these bastards.
Finally, there is the element of fundamentalist belief itself. A non-reductive adherence to literal readings of so called religious texts. The christians have this in abundance. The word of god in a paper book that has been so distorted and skewed around over the centuries that it really cannot be seriously considered as, even, literature.
Spoiler alert. I once took a course in the bible as literature in college and lasted two weeks. Sure, some Psalms and all that. But the rest? Tough going.
So I don't know. This all comes late in my life.
At the end of WWII we were not so naive as to believe that the world was "cleansed" of evil. In fact it had saturated itself in evil with the War.
For many years, world communism, was the enemy. A mask for the unfought battles and unresolved issues of the War. Superpowers. But then all that has fallen away and we are left with the new/old paradigms. Living breathing collections of people who have a grudge or a bent toward homicide mostly unleashed. At least with the Russkies we faced an organized threat that could be grappled with. That you could talk to.
Not here in the land of fundamentalism. They would all be at each other's throats the second the infidels were defeated. Eternal hatred.

Well howdy do!
The vows get more sanctified as time goes on.
Presbyterian assembly: Gay marriage is Christian
That is a whole bunch of christians! A big denomination. Not known as highly conservative but still a big switch.
Who would have thought?
Some of us say that we don't care whether the churches "sanctify" our marriage or not. But for many, this is a major hurdle to have to cross and now is removed.
It is also, non religiously speaking, a great bound forward as a social acceptance. One more wave rolling over the ground of bigotry and hatred.
Here are some guys getting married in the Arlington Street Church in Boston. Among the first to go gay.
