Swiped

Gail Collins takes a last swipe at Mittens as he exits. Right?

Mitt Quits Again. Probably.

Collins has always had the ability to hone right in on Mitt's weak spots.

It is almost like animal cruelty.

She cannot help tease the guy in the cage.

What cage? The ego cage, the Mormon cage, the other restraints that hold Mitt back from being an open, genuine, whole healthy man.

He lives in a straight jacket. Just watching him, which I no longer do, makes me want to loosen my collar.

He stutters, stammers, backs up, tries again and smiles. Goddam how he smiles. That fake condescending smirk of the little squirt who knocks at your door selling The Book.

I just do not know where to start. Mitt's past due date passed decades ago. Or maybe before he ever began running for office.

Mitt suffers from the disease of privilege. His Dad, George Romney, a self made man, sort of, ran an auto company badly. Ran it into the ground.

I will miss Mitt. But I also somehow believe it is not the end. That that ever overflowing ego will find some need, some time, to emerge again.

Put the smile in the closet Mitt along with the bad suits.

Don't throw any of them out. The GOoPers are probably going to need another man on a white horse sometime in the future and you are still a youngish savior.

Look.

He got two successive items in this blog! I will miss him. Sorta.

But the ability of the Republicans to vomit up another mockable candidate is probably infinite. An endless source of fun.

Heroic

It is hard to believe.

Mitt Romney Won't Run in 2016.

Surprise that he has some pride left.

How much rejection can one ego take?

What will we do?

No one else seems as mockable but somehow the GOoPers will find someone.

I have confidence in their ability to choose Elmer Fudd to lead them.

It will take some time to shake out.

A Mittless party has to be a little aimless for awhile. Or perhaps he was thrown over the bridge.

Couldn't happen to a nicer guy.

Trapped

Mitt Romney.

It is time to get after him again.

Tkrose sent me this today.

This "geezer" really trapped the Mitter. It would be funny if it wasn't so sad. The Mormon boy trapped in his archaic pathetic belief system.

Mitt the shit.

So smooth. A walking slime ball. Jesus I hope he runs again, the bastard.

Here he comes again......

I hope so.

HOPE

Gail Collins hopes, in the story of Richard III's discovered remains, for a satisfactory reclamation of Mitt Romney.

My Kingdom for a Corpse

Just when we had about forgotten Mitt, here comes Collins to show us that the perspectives of history are instructive.

As for the previously hated Richard III, Mitt can find solace in the fact that when his bones are dug up centuries from now, there will be an admiration society ready to celebrate the disinterment.

Until then, however, Mitt will just have to survive on the knowledge that his memory is not completely quenched. At least for Gail Collins.

THE GREATEST LIE OF ALL

From today's Boston Globe. The final word, well, probably not, on Mitt Romney.

The Boston Globe this weekend offered a fascinating analysis of why Mitt Romney lost the 2012 presidential election. But for all the impact of ground games, turnout models and campaign strategies, Mitt Romney lost not because he failed to define himself to the American people, but because he succeeded. At the end of the day, he was inevitably "reduced to caricature, as a calculating man of astounding wealth, a man unable to relate to average folks" because that is who Mitt Romney is. Voters sized him up as a hyper-ambitious, amoral opportunist more than willing to mislead them on almost any topic. And as his number one son Tagg revealed to the Globe, Mitt Romney was a liar to the end, still pretending he never wanted to President in the first place.

Tagg, who now provides his father office space at the Solamere Capital private equity firm his parents' $10 million investment and priceless connections helped create, performed one final campaign task for Mitt. How disappointed could his father really be, Tagg suggested, if he never wanted to be President anyway?

Well, of course. I found the "he never wanted it" thing a few days ago.

Yeh. What about the 8 years he ran and ran and ran. Even the GOP deserves better than that guy.

The emperor's clothes and all that.

WHEN SILENCE WOULD BE GOLDEN

Tagg Romney: Mitt 'Wanted To Be President Less Than Anyone I've Met'

Ha Ha Ha.

Really?

I would have had the opposite view. Unless he is the most self destructive person he knows, below self awareness.

These people can't shut up. Tagg particularly.

I know.

This was over long ago. But it ain't over until the fat lady and the ambitious scion quit singing.

How many people does the Tagger know? I bet he wants to be Prez but hopes are now dashed, maybe. He could be the second Mitt-coming.

LIFE AFTER DEATH

It is amusing to see people's interest in finding photo pops for Mitt Romney. These days of the ubiquitous phone cam.

Mitt in the After Life

I sympathize with any public figure who has to go private suddenly. Or even one who is still active in public life who is trying to, well, buy some Cheerios without looking at them as though he never saw any before.

Usually candid shots have to do with illicit liaisons or scandalous doings.

Not Mitt.

He is on a roller coaster or sitting at ringside or, well, picking out cereal to say nothing of eating a burger or pumping gas.

Nothing topless or too embarrassing except the absence of hair product.

And that’s the thing. Romney’s somehow like the anti-Zelig. He’s seemingly everywhere. Popping up in the oddest places and yet not remotely ever fitting in or blending in. In every new setting he sticks out palpably as Mitt Romney. Not ‘Where’s Waldo’ but ‘Here’s Waldo!’ Right there. You can’t miss him.

MORE SCHADENFREUDE

I said that I wouldn't do this but the whole thing is irresistible.

A Detached Romney tends wounds in seclusion after Failed White House Bid

Some rumors or hearsay about the Romneys and how they are doing.

Some surprises. He has only one aide left. He helped all the others find jobs but did not keep them on.

Another. He doesn't know what to do. There was no plan B. But that is probably the result of some mental compulsion to not think about defeat.

Another. He is that he does not see how or why other GOoPers want him around. But he does not want to be around either. Equal.

Not a surprise. Lady Ann is taking this very hard. Weepy and unhappy. She really saw herself in the First Lady role and meant the thing about how it would be nice to have a First Lady who looked like one. She didn't say that but you knew that was the deal.

Back to the horses.

WILDLY OFF TRACK

There are many theories about how Romney's pollsters and campaign operatives got things so terribly wrong.

But this theory from the Zingularity guy runs rings around most of the ideas I have seen.

As long as we’re guessing, here’s my wildest guess: there’s an enormous number of grifters preying on wingnuts these days. It’s a huge industry. They operate openly for the most part because, in most rightwing circles, any quasi-legal scheme to shameless enrich one’s self by exploiting anyone else, even the wingnut base, isn’t frowned upon, it is applauded. Maybe here and there Romney’s pollsters figured to themselves, ‘fuck it, let’s take this rich SOB for everything he’s got while the gettin’s good, let’s just tell him what he wants to hear and make bank.’

That’s pure, wild speculation on my part, no way to ever know, but a boy can dream.

The thing I know is that the Romneys were rich for rip off. Many of the operatives, themselves, were double dipping. Taking a salary and getting a cut of the double high rates that Romney's ads were charged versus Obama.

This is the cult of the professional manager at work. The star.

Sooner or later, the cons and grifters get on to the scamability of the successful enterprise. It happens all the time.

You know, for a few years, Romney even claimed that he was a small business. A rich one.

He is probably the dupe of investment schemes, particularly the offshore ones, as well as all kinds of leaches that grab onto his money machine and suck out.

Of course, if you combine this human tendency to take advantage with a big ego and a self important personality, invulnerable to the evils of mankind, you have a natural victim. All con men know this.

I watched a friend play three card monte once in the streets of London. My friend was a super egotist. He could not figure that he could lose. He was a student of human behavior so he knew he could figure it out.

I tried to pull him away. No.

Then one of the shills called that the coppers were coming, they were not, and it all exploded. The cards disappeared, the money was gone and my friend still believed that he had a winning thing going on. He never admitted that he was bilked. It was simply not in the cards.

ROMNEY EVEN PISSED GINGRICH OFF

‘It’s nuts’

It is quite amusing to see them gang up on the guy.

Of course he can't keep his mouth shut or stop showing his tin ear.

At least Romney is, apparently, incapable of any self knowledge.

Even if he fucking feels this way it is intemperate and impolitic to say so.

It is amazing.

I thought that we would be over this by now but the guy is fascinating in his ability to dig a deeper hole.

Can you imagine him as President? Goddam. What were people thinking? Did they so hate Obama or the Demo-policies that they were willing to accept this chucklehead?

An elitist thug without a scintilla of compassion or care for anyone less, well the word isn't "fortunate" because he is pathetic. For anyone outside his Mormonic, plutocratic sights.

Let's keep it simple and just repeat. He is a dick. And he is proving that on a daily basis.

No wonder they want him to disappear.

Jon Stewart called it a long time ago.

GAIL COLLINS REVIEWS THE ELECTION

Anybody Notice a Pattern?

Hilariously, as usual.

First, there was that matter of losing the election. Then this week Romney told some of his donors that while he was pursuing the “big issues,” President Obama had purchased the support of blacks, Hispanics and young people with goodies like college loans and health care reform. College-age women, Romney claimed, traded their votes for “free contraceptives.”

Show them a birth control pill and they’ll follow you anywhere.

Romney said all this in a private conference call, so he couldn’t have suspected that it would wind up in the media. There is no precedent whatsoever for reporters getting hold of remarks presidential candidates make to private groups about the inherent greediness of American voters.

To which, as we know, many, a lot, of Republicans said "shut the fuck up Mitt".

They had enough as we had much earlier.

The thing that amazes me is the shear ignorance of this supposedly smart man about even the basics of social policy or, for that matter, political skill.

Why would he say such a surpassingly dumb thing? A repeat of the infamous 47% talk to earlier wealthy donors in Boca Raton.

Because on top of being unable to take personal responsibility for anything, Mitt Romney is a dick.

Privileged, entitled, out of touch and a plutocratic object lesson. Money does not make the man.

I had a headline a week or more ago in which I said we wouldn't have Mitt to kick around any more. The Nixon line. Mitt does not even approach Nixon's awkward and graceless resentment.

Before he disappears entirely, he is not going to "run" the Republican Party. No autumnal period of a go-to talking head like John McCain (who sort of stepped on his own dick this week when he was doing a presser about knowing more facts about Bengazi when that actual thing was happening in a hearing he had decided? not to attend).

There will be no elder statesman role for Mittens. Yes. Obama said they would get together, not for a beer, but later. How later? Later enough for Mitt to slip into the White House and out again without much of a stir.

Collins gets to use the dog on the roof meme one more time and then we are fairly certain that we will not hear it again. Or from the Mitter.

CRY, BABY

It is all about "them" for Mitt. That goddam 47% who turned out to be well north of 50%.

Romney Reflects on Loss

Yes. A reflection.

Look Mitt, in the fucking mirror.

It is music day at esrosedotblog.

Sing it Janis. And don't worry, he won't be back.

FACTOID

Did you know that John McCain got more votes than Mitt Romney?

This must surely rankle.

Also, President Obama didn't just win, he became just the second of the last ten presidents to win a majority in two presidential elections (Reagan was the other). If there is any doubt about this being a landslide for Obama, let it disappear.

Did you ever see a landslide? Scary. This one is in Italia.

GENIUS

Props to whoever in the Obama campaign, including Obama, who thought this up.

"If you come down with a case of 'Romnesia' and you can't seem to remember the policies that are still on your website, or the promises that you've made over the six years you've been running for president, here's the good news: Obamacare covers pre-existing conditions."
Romnesia. The Etch-a-Sketch kid.

Great. I I love it. It has hit many of the MSM sites.

"And if you think you have Romnesia then you should remember that Obamacare covers pre-existing conditions!"

What a barn burner this is. There are ten YouTube videos of this speech.

THE EXPLAINER--ARITHMETIC OVER ILLUSION

The NYTimes had an editorial this morning. It said that Romney needs a "working calculator".

Bill Clinton expands on the point in this new two minute ad.
