I have been very hard on my Democrat/liberal/lefty blog people who are so resentful to Obama for doing governing things like working through the system, compromising with the opposition, taking deliberate time to undo the bush damage (although I think that this is especially undeserved as he has done tons of stuff so they are wrong).

I didn't know that I knew a real left wing Obama basher until this morning when an old friend unveiled himself when I showed him my new official bumper sticker which came the other day.

He said he was "angry" at Obama for a lot of things.

I recoiled. What? I said about the same thing as I wrote above to him. I was very disappointed actually.

But, we have our own views about things and he can have his opinions and state them. It was similar to my reaction in finding that someone I know and like was following the tea party line.

Of course, we all think that others share our views and that is more wrong than right.

I am happy to have difference if it is affable and in good humor. Not a morning goes by at the gym without an exchange with my Frick and Frack cardio guys, one an unrepentant bushie and the other like me. I gave him a bumper sticker.

It is OK. The earth will not stop turning. I will still be friends with all these guys. It is fine.

But I don't get it. The lefty thing. It is easier to get the bagger position than the adverse "liberal" unliberal position.

Time for the impatient and the unrealistic to take a look at this again.

I just wish they would quit saying how it is the worst time since the FDR transition. But maybe it is. I guess there's no harm in saying so if it jacks everyone up.

I am impressed with the bushies on this. They mean well. It has to be difficult to let bygones be bygones and harder still the lower one goes in the administrations.

But maybe they will really get a good groove going between them.

It is Bush' one last chance to salvage his reputation.

ROLLER COASTER

So today the market is rebounding. Yesterday it was drooping.

I try to give some perspective to what is happening.

I have been through these things before. They tell me that this is the worse one but it felt a lot worse in past dips.

I guess this comes from knowing I am powerless, that I am not going to change where I have my money (in a mixed managed fund which is doing 'better' than the market) and that what goes down must come up.

If the coming up happens in the long term, I might not be here to enjoy it. On the other hand, if I am going to quit the scene that early I won't need the money anyway.

Ya' see what I mean?

No prob-a-lem.

The papers are just beginning to grasp that this is another of the bush failures. The signs have been out for this for months.

Even a week ago, fearless George was saying that there was nothing to worry about.

He seems hopelessly out of touch with what is going on.

Shit, he didn't even know that gas was edging towards $4.00 a gallon.

When Bill Clinton left office back in the ancient time of 2001, he had the job approval of over 60% of the public, according to nearly every poll. Indeed, this rating never fell below 50% for his entire second term. Indeed, after his public apology for lying about getting fellated by Monica Lewinsky, most of the poll numbers went higher, even over 70%. Those are numbers that George W. Bush would rape a dying orphan to get.

WAR OF ATTRITION

I mean the one between the Congress and the prez.

Many lefties view the Congress' vote for the Iraq blood money, without limits, as a capitulation.

I tend not to see it this way.

I rather believe that the efforts being made to push bush back are winning.

Not in a win/lose way, but in the way that will work with his reality which is that he must see the political liabilities of his position and begin to move toward withdrawal.

Of course, in the meantime, people are dying for his lost cause but there you are.

Or there he is.

Why am I kinda sorta optimistic? You can see him changing before our eyes. Reluctantly, but changing.

Bush opens the door to a troop withdrawal:

He says the Iraq Study Group's plan, once scorned, appeals to him. But securing Baghdad must come first.

Of course, he is a world class liar and obfuscater.

Maybe this is just eyewash.

But I think not.

I guess that I am from a different time and set of values.

If you are disgraced and found wanting in public office, the traditional thing to do has always been to resign.

Gonzales went up to the hill and, regaining his smirk, brazened it out and refused to be contrite or to tow the line that had been set down by our reps.

Well, of course. He took the bullet for the White House and he is not going to be asked to take his wounded body off stage.

I just can't describe the surprise I felt when I saw the bush come out and support this semi-thug.

OPEN GATES

I have been wondering about this:

I have sensed a certain independence from Gates from the get-go.

He is nobody's fool. He has a reputation to keep. He was the principal author of the Iraq Study Group report.

This says that he keeps a well-thumbed copy on his desk.

You never know. It would not be the first time that a cabinet man or woman has undermined a president.

One can only hope.

Also the day that the Senate 'made' george veto support for the troops.

No date. No budget.

He has 86'd it.

The first veto other than for stem cell research. Another veto for death.

It even shocked me and I am way down there on the negatives.
