I refer of course to the 'let's go fishing' sequence in The Godfather where happy faced liar Fredo gets taken for a wet ride.

NO LOSS

I am not surprised that the 'no confidence' vote for Fredo didn't go all the way.

And I do not consider it a loss.

Read this. Yes. They say 'failure' Not to me.

Gonzo No Confidence Vote Fails.

They didn't have 2/3 to bring it to the floor. They never voted on the actual bill.

No GoOPer wanted to have his name on such a bill voting yes or no.

In my book, a majority like that is a vote of no-confidence.

Not one person has spoken for him in this debate other than the sad Orin Hatch.

NO SHAME

I don't know why I thought otherwise.

I guess that I am from a different time and set of values.

If you are disgraced and found wanting in public office, the traditional thing to do has always been to resign.

No longer.

Gonzales went up to the hill and, regaining his smirk, brazened it out and refused to be contrite or to tow the line that had been set down by our reps.

The prez sez he did a great job.

Well, of course. He took the bullet for the White House and he is not going to be asked to take his wounded body off stage.

Payback for loyalty.

We will see what develops.

Then there is Wolfowitz.

Spare me.

I just can't describe the surprise I felt when I saw the bush come out and support this semi-thug.

But, there I go again.

I forget that these people have no shame or remorse. It is their standard way of doing business.

I am reminded of the picture of Yalie george holding some guy's head and punching him in the eye on the soccer field.

Before today's vote, White House Press Secretary Tony Snow said the administration was attempting to avoid the media circus likely to result from Mr. Rove being seated for a public hearing.

Well, of course.

He is the ringmaster and has been.

I know. There is Cheney but he doesn't have an act in this show.

It is amusing to watch these bastards squirm.

The most active conspirator in the whole deal and we cannot hear what he has to say.

These guys are beyond belief.

I would think that Snow's career, if any, in the media is over.

Well, there is always Fox.

J. Kenneth Galbraith, the wit, statesman and economist, developed the theory that says, in part, that four statements of "I will not resign" by any public figure means that he will.

By my count Gonzo is up to three.

Today's call from the President, wherein bushie stated his support, complicates the calculation.

I have a parallel theory.

The esrose formulation is that four public statements of support by the president to his troubled henchmen means that they will be replaced within the week.

Rumsfeld is a prime example as is the scandal-ubiquitous Harriet Miers.

I read that they are already trying to find a replacement from a very thin field of volunteers.

This lack of prospects for the job might, indeed, be just what Alberto needs to save his sorry ass.
