Who am I?

I love the idea of becoming anonymous in the world.

Of course, that is only a thought and an impulse.

My bow to my introvert. The loner.

But there are people who do it and actually pull it off.

When these people get into trouble, they have a way to continue to be who they are not. Who they do not want to be.

Unidentified Defendants Have Bedeviled Courts for a Decade

As it turns out, this will not get you out of the trouble you are in but you will still be unknown.

Hilarious.

Fnu Lnu.

You can almost pronounce it.

An oriental gentleman with a hazy country of origin.

There is a literature of Fnu Lnus.

Usually there is some other thing going on. Sometimes they go all the way like The Invisible Man

As to whether I would ever do such a thing, I suppose not.

The other character defect in conflict with this one is that I have a huge ego problem. Don't you know who I am?

So, it is just an amusing notion.

It is a great article. Fun. Not fun for the people that have to deal with these guys.

I get the impression that it is only men. Don't have a handle on that one.

Face to Face

I was disappointed not to be able to see the kid have his plea hearing.

In Court for First Time Boston Bombing Suspect Faces Victims

It was pretty anti-climactic although he apparently affected a wise guy image.

There were no pictures. I saw an artist's rendering but those so suck.

I want to see this guy.

I know it is strangely voyeuristic but I want to look into his eyes as they are now. I want to see his haircut (evidently renewed to the old messy kind of afro shown in all his pix). But to no avail.

I had this same thing with Timothy McVey. There were a lot of photos of him on his way to the death chamber. I wanted to see them all.

Not as a kind of enjoyment I think. More that I want to understand.

The mail bomber Ted Kazinzky was an obvious nut. Not hard to fathom. Ugly and crazed looking.

McVey and this guy are amazingly normal looking. Virile. Alive.

What the fuck is going on in there?

We will never, ever know.

There are reams of literature on the sociopathic personality whether it is a fanatic for muslims or whatever. It is the guy in the Texas tower.

A mystery.

HUBRIS

Famed Lawyer Denied License

F. Lee Bailey was a legal superstar.

Maybe he wasn't as well known out here. But he was a big deal and a bigger deal than that in his own mind.

He was a member of the bar here and defended Patty Hearst. Among others.

I remember him because he cut a wide swath where he lived nearby to my family on the South Shore in Massachusetts.

He got his tit caught in the wringer by holding some clients' money a little too long and using it a little too much for his own good.

He got disbarred.

It is nice to see that there is an institutional memory and that, while he did get close to a second chance, they didn't give him one.

I WONDERED ABOUT THIS MYSELF

What to do About Joe Paterno's Statue?

I have stayed away from the Paterno part of the child abuse case. I never understand how anyone gets a statue before they are dead.

There is a lesson and perhaps an answer to the Paterno question in the statues of Mayor Curley, the corrupt father of Rose Kennedy. A master of the dark political arts.

Curley stands there with his pot belly and you know his story. It is a great sculpture. He was a funny, greatly beloved man, almost because of his faults. And you can see it. The rascal and the people's hero. (He is the only man elected to be Boston Mayor while he was in jail).

Venal. But beloved.

I used to sit on the bench with him from time to time.

Paterno got the statue while he was alive and a lot of money sort of twisted out of Penn State. A matter of another kind of corruption. Hero worship. The corruption of greed. Even at the end he got mega bucks. For what?

Then the scandal. The kids. Clay feet.

I like Ta Nehisi-Coates suggestion. Let the statue stand and put the full story around it. Also a pot belly if there was one.

I have not put an image of Paterno's statue here. Just the Mayor. A rascal who never covered up for a serial child molester. As far as we know.

Of course, this means that I put a grade on evil doing. I guess I do.

But there are limits.

FRONT ROW SEAT

I have a sort of front row seat to the whole Murdoch mess. My friend Lynda sends me little updates from London where she lives not a stone's throw from all the action.

Today, she asked if I was keeping up.

The answer is "pretty well" inasmuch as the NYTimes produced a huge summary of the situation this morning.

Stain Rubs Off on Cozy Scotland Yard

Good enough, but by this afternoon, the head of Scotland Yard has resigned. His dick caught in the wringer as well.

Earlier, they arrested the dramatic looking and acting Rebekah Brooks who looks just like she came from Central Casting.

Cameron is shoveling as fast as he can and digging himself in deeper.

It is a right mess they have on their hands.

The word from London is that the investigation yet to come will cut wide and deep. Coverup is no longer an option.

Of course it never is. When will "they" learn? The coverup is always worse and has more backlash than the original crime. Although in this case, the original crime is pretty outrageous and widespread.

What next? Rupert has a stroke? James is thrown under the bus? Will Fox News and the WSJ finally cover the story instead of covering up? What will the FBI find going in the USA?

This is not the main event in my life but it is interesting not the least bit because my friend is so close to the line of fire.

She tells me that they have sent out for more popcorn as the circus continues to run.

SCHADENFREUDELICIOUS

It is has been sad fun to sit back and watch the Murdoch show this past week.

It is still unwinding.

And has yet to reach are shores. But the water is lapping.

Joe Nocera has this in the NYTimes today.

The Journal Becomes Fox-ified

I was actually surprised by this.

Somehow the WSJ seemed sacrosanct although a lot of people predicted this. I thought that somehow they wouldn't have fallen this far this fast to the Murdoch code of loyalty.

I still entertain the idea that I might subscribe to them again. I really did like the paper when I was taking it (on-line). They still send me their headlines for free every morning.

As for Fox. Well, nothing could be lower. I saw clips of the first Fox piece which didn't appear until days after this all started. No coverage at all!

But after a couple of days, they had to buckle. One of its morning assholes Steve Doocey (yes, Dooooossseee) interviewed some hack who was a PR "expert" who explained how it was all an over reaction.

That was it.

Mocked thoroughly by the "free press" all over.

Even I. Incapable of being surprised, have been disturbed about how bad this is.

And, as far as I can see, the open attacks on the Conservative Party links to say nothing of Scotland Yard have just begun (two trash bags full of evidence hidden).

How long will it take to open some cases here and then worm into the house organ of Fox?

We are going to need more than a bag of popcorn for this. Maybe one of those theaters that sell meals and all. A return of the teevee dinner.

CLASSY

There is still a class system.

Take a look at the big swinging dick guy from the IMF who got waylaid over his "situation" with the hotel maid.

As the case weakens, even more people are defending the obvious man of distinction and condemning the DA. It would seem a lot like the divine right of kings has been re-instituted.

If you are rich and powerful you should get a pass. Hotel maids need not apply.

Sure, now, maybe she is caught in some lies. But should we repeal justice because someone made an "ambitious" charge.

No.

If you get caught with your dick in the wrong place and you forced it to be there you should answer.

Joe Nocera agrees with me.

The D.A. Did the Right Thing

Interesting that this, no matter how it turns out, has turned over the turf on another victim of Dominique Strauss-Kahn (a three name guy) over in his own country where the divine right has not been repealed and men can do whatever they want with women and get away with it. After all, they are only French, ooh la la

MISOGYNY

This morning at the gym, one of my friends commented on the IMF frog who got caught with his pants down in New York. Pulled off the plane. "Disgraced" in the perp walk according to some French intellectuals.

My friend, surprisingly, said that "they" should have just let him get on the plane and fly away. That she was probably used to servicing guests.

Jesus H. Christ. And this is a guy who is, otherwise, a liberal.

I, of course, do not want to do the same and jump to conclusions about the haughty bastard himself who was staying in a 3,000 dollar a night suite. Man of privilege. A nice suit.

He is innocent until proven guilty. But the grand jury returned an indictment on him today and he sits with five million dollars bail and a bracelet in one apartment until his trial.

They have already started on the woman. But, evidently, there is ample forensic evidence to support the indictment. It is not just "he said, she said".

The guy has a record of this. Rich and powerful men who can't keep their dicks in their pants.

But people will want to blame the victim.

I have a friend who was recently gang raped, males on male. He has had access to great counseling and the police have been superb. There is a network of positive support now in the official world. Same in New York City. The Times wrote extensively about this in today's "paper".

But still, my friend has been gossiped about, wrong info put out. All biased against him. By other men.

Fortunately for him there have been a number of men who have come up to him and told their own story of having this done to them. One man even came to tell how he had been a perpetrator and had never been able to shake the guilt of it.

So there are good people and good outcomes. But the power game of rich white men continues and society still wants to blame the victim for whatever dereliction that they can make up.

Our ex Governor is also just one of many such examples.

Sad.

A MOVEMENT

Wow. I am part of a movement. Me and Kevin Drum.

Facebook's Plan For World Domination

There are a few more collected articles in here.

As for Suckenberg, here is more:

Facebook has gone rogue, drunk on founder Mark Zuckerberg’s dreams of world domination. It’s time the rest of the web ecosystem recognizes this and works to replace it with something open and distributed.
50 separate settings for privacy.

There is also a link to a memoir of what the Zucker was like at Harvard.

LET'S FACE IT

Another rant today about people selling their personal privacy on the cheap without knowing it and big corpa manipulating them to do it.

First, this morning, in the NYT:

Facebook Glitch Brings New Worries

And then, this afternoon, from Kevin Drum.

Is Facebook Evil?

In a word, "probably".

These are kids. And slimy ones at that. Look at the photo of founder Zuckerberg in the Times article. And look at this one.

And look at his history.

Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg 'hacked into emails of rivals and journalists'

I don't know why I am upset about it.

I do not sign up with any of these at any time. I consider them a spam magnet and I just know in my heart that they are not private.

But I see people I know fall for this shit and let it all hang out on line and, well, I get very concerned for them. Kids. They are working Facebook and don't have any clue to the trouble they might get into for themselves and their "friends".

No. Most people do not put financial info on Facebook or Twitter. But they chat on and on and put up photos and personal information that might be worth money or reputation or even a job or a relationship.

It is very dangerous stuff. The village gossip line brought into the 21st Century.

Look at that little shit. Arrogant self righteous bastards.
