Speed freak
We know that Hitler was nuts.
But many years of analysis have failed to provide a decent map of his derangement.
Try this.
High on Hitler and Meth: Book Says Nazis Were Fueled by Drugs
Unlimited access with little information about the side effects. Overriding the need to sleep. Driving the mania that the man already came packaged with.
This is just supposition but since I am a child of the Hitler period, I am always interested in answers about what drove this fucker to do what he did.
Straight out. Drugs do not make one DO things.
But they sure can overrided scruples and inhibitions.
i am posting this not so much to clear up or clarify the Hitler history as to illuminate the fact that many present time leaders are also into drugs.
Bizarre behaviors? Delusins of grandeur. The need for only a few hours of sleep a night?
Hmm.

He gets it.
Christie understands addiction.
He would make a wonderful advocate.
Treatment versus incarceration.

CUPPA JOE
I have not had any coffee for a number of years now.
I do drink diet cola and recently noticed the intake had increased.
That might explain my recent strong yen for a cup of coffee.
I am, perhaps, in a classic addiction spiral.
But it is coffee. Caffeine.
And I am going to give in to it.
Another thing. I have gotten all noddy in the later morning lately. Sleepy.
The caffeine should help that too.
Of all the drugs, I regard caffeine as the safest. It is also easily kicked if one has the will to do so.
So, I am going to hook myself up again.
It is a nice little hobby too. Grinding ones beans and all.
I sent off for a new burr grinder today. A Cuisinart DBM-8 Supreme Grind Automatic Burr Mill. Gotta get the burr.
In the meantime I will buy ground.
I am starting with Peet's brand. I think that it is all the same really but the bag looked nice and it is not Starbucks.
I also am not going to use the plastic/"gold" basket but move back to paper so I can get the ground finer and have more taste. The plastic basket smells after the first use.
We have a Braun maker. I had to go on line to get the operating instructions for the clock. It has been off that long. I am sure the instructions are in the "equipment" file but I don't have the heart to go page through all the brochures to find them.
So, here we go. Back to the future. Another old vice taken up again.

GAP
Another busy day. I did have one cancel this morning but another arrives in 15 minutes.
I went to the dentist yesterday.
It is not "look ma no cavities" for me today. One cavity to have a filling and another goddam crown. He will not be happy until he has all fake crockery in my mouth.
I have been out of his cash flow for quite a while so now, back in, I will be in favor. A nod, a hello. A tip of the hat from the big man as he walks the halls past his minion's doorways.
He is a nice guy and does great work and I begrudge him nothing. Happy to contribute.
I will get the crown started on Monday. The filliing as well.
Remember when I would wait weeks and months, even years, to get the work done?
On the way home, I went and set up a new pharmacy. My old one of many years duration was bought out by Walgreen which is OK and has worked fine. But, it seems, Walgreen and my insurance company no longer speak to each other. No end seen to this foreseen difficulty.
I don't use any prescription drugs, at least none that are on the list so that has been OK.
But now I am having the cataracts removed and they will need to send a script to someone for my drops and all. Expensive, I hear.
So off to the other small shop nearby. John goes there.
They were very nice and even have the on-line ordering. They will take care of any transfers. I have two. One uncovered monthly bottle and another salve that I use so seldom, I age it out every year. Make that two. Rashes.
It is very hot now. We are over the ups and downs. Nothing over 110 I think although the Volvo said 114 yesterday. I think it was the parking lot effect. I didn't look again after that.
So that is the update.
Time marches on.
Oh. The Dodgers signed Andre Etier for five years and 85 million dollars yesterday.
I am not a Dodger's fan but I am thinking of becoming an Etier follower. Actually, I am not a baseball fan either. But I will keep my eye on this one. Woof!

LIGHTENING UP
We are beginning to see the softening of the rhetoric when it comes to sentencing for drug use.
For too long, we have been filling prisons with disproportionate sentences.
The softening of marijuana laws has already occurred even to the point that, in California, we will be voting whether to simply legalize it. Oakland has already allotted acreage for pot farming.
This may not get by the Feds but, certainly, this would never have been possible up to now.
The politicians have had a "made for demagoguery" issue with drugs. Now, it is less than ideal and there is more rational discourse on the subject.
One disparity which is notorious is that between conviction for dry white cocaine use and the use of crack.

The former, notably, usually involves white defendants. The latter, black. So there is a racial component to the issue.
Today that changed.
I have a friend now serving up to six years for crack possession. It is hard time.
No. He shouldn't have had it. He is an addict. Nothing is more natural than an addict to have possession. Unless he is sober. But the sobriety with crack is shaky at best. It is a pernicious drug which is very, very hard to shake.
If he had powder cocaine he might have walked. Or been sent to rehab.
I think it is notable that national partisan politics were not engaged with this bill today.
There has been a lot of progress in our time.

COKED UP
I had stopped coffee caffeine a few years ago and, except for a Coca Cola with pizza, hadn't any of the drug at all.
When I meet up with the MIT prospects at the coffee shop I have a decaf which I know has caffeine in it but there is no buzz. No withdrawal.
Now, there is a new thing. Soda makers now have the little 7.5 oz. can. Easy to hold. Just enough to get a little bump. And, face it, Coke tastes good. So does Dr. Pepper. The diet versions.
So now, here I am with a daily afternoon jones for a little can of Coke or Dr. Pee.
I go for it automatically.
I am not worried about this turning into anything. I haven't started for two cans. No progression.
It is just interesting to see that through marketing, the Coke can is quite handsome, and given availability, they come in 8 packs, to say nothing of the "bump", one can be taken right back into being a dependably addicted consumer.
I used to work for Coke, a lot. A salesman told me that all they need is for me to lift the tab. Pssssst. Item sold. I don't have to drink it.
But I am drinking these. And liking it. Not a lot of resistance.
I'm just a capitalistic tool.
