GARBAGE AND SEWAGE

Maira Kalman is at it again. Wonderful.

For Goodness' Sake

I am not anywhere near NYC any more but I can relate to her optimistic view of things and enjoy her excitement.

IT'S A GOOD THING

Today was filled with ups and downs but one of the biggest ups was the receipt of a postcard from the County Jury Duty Administrator.

I have been granted a permanent excuse from all future jury duty for health reasons.

In California, when you are 70, all you have to do is tell them you have something that will compromise your jury service. You do not even require a written medical excuse.

My excuse is true for jury duty but hardly debilitating in daily life.

I have irritable bowel syndrome and can't sit for long periods. Especially under stress.

Or, at least, I think that I can't.

And evidently they think so too.

To say that I am overjoyed to be getting this permanent excuse is the understatement of the era.

And don't write me about my civic duty.

I will no longer be grist for the legal mill.

TAX TIME

The priority mail package came today.

Peter had sent my annual returns and the quarterly payment package.

It wasn't too bad.

I got some and I paid some and I ended up almost even.

I like to stay on the balance line.

If they owe me money then I am losing the interest.

If I owe them, I might have a penalty and I don't like attracting attention.

A retired guy's returns are pretty straight forward. It is almost like when I was just a salary dude.

Don't pay attention to the cartoon.

I just liked the picture.

This is not a big deal. I am used to the slight pain of paying.

I can show you a big deal. Confiscation. Cancellation of accounts. We have it pretty good.

My attitude is 'my government right or wrong' when it comes to the tax dollars.

Even though it is often wrong these days, I visualize my dollars going into good works and keeping the ship afloat while the bushies do everything they can to sink it.

Tax time is non-partisan.

I am happy to buy an interest in the best country in the world and the life that I have been able to live in it.

And don't start arguing about where else would be better. I won't hear of it.

I know some Canadians and people who live in the UK.

I will take what we have any time.

HEDONISM HEADQUARTERS

One nice thing about living in Palm Springs is that we have a continual parade of party events that keep us in the national eye and also provide some local excitement.

Right now we have the famed Dinah Shore golf event:

Daughters of the Dinah, Unbound

Next week will be the original, notorious (turn down the sound on your computer)

White Party

Well, it is not the original one. It is one of the biggest gay circuit parties and a huge commercial undertaking. The originals were much more 'hand made' affairs.

This weekend the hills are alive with the sound of lesbians.

Next weekend, 'the gays'.

Not that this is so much different than any other time.

We are actually about 40% gay in PS and equally divided I think between men and women. Maybe more men.

It is just that the party gangs are here to party! And party they do.

Turn the sound down indeed.

The home boy homos stay in their homes with the windows closed while all this is going on. At least this boy does.

And they are over a mile away!

Oh.

'The straights' have their events too.

The October Cycle convention is an ear splitting run up and down all the streets (except the no-fly zones) and the town's percentage population of bottle blondes increases ten-fold.

We also know that dick size increases with bike horsepower.

There are also strippers, sex workers, drag queens, nudists and many others who avail themselves of our permissive environment.

We are an equal opportunity convention site.

HERE WE GO

I am going to be the first in line.

California Joins Move to Earlier Primaries

Hell, we are going to be the earlier primary.

There will be others but we are the biggest!

And so on. Drum thumping and bugles blaring into the distance. Boosterism.

OH

It is Lincoln's birthday too but we have always celebrated that.

The City of Palm Springs offices are closed today for Abe.

You can bet your ass that they will be closed for the rest of the Presidents next Monday too.

Awful.
