THE CNN WORKOUT

I have been watching campaign coverage on CNN when I do a half hour on the bike in the morning.

It is interesting that when there was little or no campaign news, I had trouble getting my heart rate up high enough.

By this I mean that when you get older and stay in cardio shape you have to 'hurt' more to get an elevated heart rate and so it is unpleasant.

Not so on good political days. A noisy Republican surrogate or candidate can get my heart rate up about 5-10 points.

Some of them, particularly Rudy G. who was on this morning can get me so stoked that I have to turn the 'effort' level down a notch. He had me over 120 this morning.

So he is good for something.

Another drag queen.

ENDORSEMENTS

The NYTimes endorses Clinton (rather influential as it is the Times) and McCain (much less influential as it is the Times) and manages, in its writeup on McCain, to slam Rudy as hard as I have seen any such editorial do in a long time.

The real Mr. Giuliani, whom many New Yorkers came to know and mistrust, is a narrow, obsessively secretive, vindictive man who saw no need to limit police power. Racial polarization was as much a legacy of his tenure as the rebirth of Times Square.

Mr. Giuliani’s arrogance and bad judgment are breathtaking. When he claims fiscal prudence, we remember how he ran through surpluses without a thought to the inevitable downturn and bequeathed huge deficits to his successor. He fired Police Commissioner William Bratton, the architect of the drop in crime, because he couldn’t share the limelight. He later gave the job to Bernard Kerik, who has now been indicted on fraud and corruption charges.

The Rudolph Giuliani of 2008 first shamelessly turned the horror of 9/11 into a lucrative business, with a secret client list, then exploited his city’s and the country’s nightmare to promote his presidential campaign.

I believe that there is a special place in hell for people like Guiliani and it usually happens in their lifetimes.

But, in the meantime, as the stones grind fine, it is nice to see him really get his ass kicked publicly and smartly.

RUDY VS HILLARY

I have decided that this is going to be the contest.

This shows how each is doing in their respective primaries.

I think that Kevin Drum is the only other lib-blogger that agrees with me; at least the big time ones.

Crystal Ball Update

When they get to the general, she will be right even or beyond him in every respect.

Right now she beats him in a lot of blue/reddish states.

I know.

Get a life!

Only the most devoted politiphile is interested in this kind of shit this early.

ALL GOOD NEWS HERE

I like that part where Bill has the reverse of the bush.

In Latest Poll Good News For Both Clintons

New, is that Bill is viewed as an asset in the campaign and as first husband.

New is that Hillary beats all GOoPers handily including Rudy.

Edwards is falling.

I was surprised that Obama's negatives are as high as Clinton's. The urban legend is that her negatives were/are too high to win but they all clock in around 40%; Dems and Reps alike.

CELLULITIS

Some people think that Guiliani has some emotional problems.

Too much asbestos dust?

No. He really wasn't in the dust that much or that often. Just photo opps.

But the current cell phone thing is really weird.

Here is Kevin Drum in a funny summary:

Rudy's Cell Phone

As you may know, I have a fixation on Rudy.

I can't quit watching him go.

He is manic.

He is an egoist of the first water.

He is fucking right all the time.

We already have that. Eight years of it.

He was in Palm Springs last weekend talking to the 'worker bees of the party', the GoOPer women.

He pandered.

I don't know if the little woman called him during his speech there but I hope she did.

It would all fit together.

If he is scary, she is a horror.

Guiliani would not be the first candidate to stage informal, interruptive moments. Planned accidents to show his human side.

They never work. As this exercise attests.

HUH?

I don't normally react to comments on the blog but this one had me scratching my head.

A poser.

It is in response to my focus on Giuliani's blanket endorsement of torture ('whatever it takes') the other night in the context of his more liberal positions on domestic social issues.

America is still the last best hope for the rest of the world as the globe recedes into socialism and/or islamic fascism. Foreign aid and humanitarian aid from the US to the third world exceeds the aid provided by the next 40 countries COMBINED! Through the State Department, USAID, and the Peace Corps the US government sponsors literacy programs, health and immunization programs, famine relief, etc. etc. across the globe.

We are a great and moral nation (as a whole) and as such we DON'T condone torture or regularly practice it! We're better than that! This isn't China or Cuba after all!

Why do people from the rest of the world still want to come and live here?

Who do you personally know that's been tortured? Your neighbor? Your local barber? The little old lady next door?

Yeah.....I didn't think so......

A little over the top dude.

I was just talking about the 9-11 man who apparently DOES "condone torture" and would be ready to "regularly be ready to practice it".

I think America is all that too.

That is exactly the reason that I don't think we should be zapping people's balls to mak'em talk.

Or waterboarding.

Or, well, whatever they actually are, I am convinced, doing.

Evidently ANONYMOUS doesn't think that they are doing this or if they are it is OK.

The other part of this is the whole 'criticize one part of our country and you condemn it all' argument.

This is the mindset of the Love It or Leave It bumper stickers back when we were doing 'Nam.

Do I know anyone who has been tortured?

Shit, no.

And I don't want to.

But if we make it part and parcel of our military approach, I will start knowing that the neighbor's son, the barber's daughter and the little old ladies' grandkids have been tortured.

And so on.

You can see. It did get under my skin and they say to let your blog's comments go.

And I will.

GIULILOONY

I may have given the wrong impression.

When I praised Rudy for going against the flow on social issues I was not endorsing him or even making him a good person for the Prez-job.

I was just reflecting on the fact that there are some Republicans (upper case) who are humanitarians.

Of course, Rudy undoes all this by being for torture as he avowed last night.

He would be willing to do "Whatever it takes".

'Nuff said.

DANCING RUDY

OK.

Maybe Rudy Giuliani really is a shameless flip-flopper.

Is The GOP Ready For a Freethinker?

He may be dancing around the line he has drawn but he has drawn it.

Pleasing no one.

On the other hand you have Romney and McCain who have denied their entire political careers just to get a little wing-nut hand holding.

Huge FLIPS.

So, maybe it is down to Ron Paul.

RUDY GETS IT

I really like this:

Giuliani Takes On G.O.P. Orthodoxy on Social Issues

It takes a lot of intestinal fortitude to do this kind of thing; and in the belly of the beast.

On the other hand it is realistic.

His record is clear. He supports a more liberal or libertarian party.

They would cut him to pieces on the flip flop thing.

His forthrightness and candor can only be good for the country.

We need a two party system where there is a fair exchange of views on both sides.

There is no doubt that he will be sticking it to them.

WHATS IN A NAME?

But then, we probably aren't ready for a President named Barack either.

I don't know about 'Hillary'.

I just mention this as, unfortunately, I think that it will be a factor.

It also helps my guy.

Bill Richardson. Now that's a name!

ON SECOND THOUGHT

I don't think that we are ready for a President called 'Rudy'.

MORE RUDY

This attack ad against Giuliani makes me like him a little better.

Will the Real Rudy Show Up at CPAC?

I read a thing today that says he is a 'difficult', ego ridden man. Not a bad recommendation.

He is not a moron.

RUDY

Far be it from me to recommend a GOP candidate but I have to say that Rudy Giuliani is a candidate that a Democrat/Progressive can like.

He is on the angel's side of many social issues and he is not a doctrinaire.

Of course, he has no national or international experience but we have one or two of those as well.

I suppose that I should be looking for them to nominate someone who is way right wing, a bible belter, and so on. Someone sure to lose and divide.

But, I would like a return to the days of the NY Republican; conservative on money and libertarian on social issues.

I mention this because as of today he is whipping that Mr. Straight-talk's ass in the polls.

GIULIANI

Rudy G is way high in the GOoPer presidential nominee polls.

He won't make it.

Not only does he have three marriages, gay friends, and questionable business associates, his name is not easily spelled.

The name shouts out his national origins.

The republican party just could/would not go for it.

They want white bread.

There will be a lot of posturing over his record as a 'hero' (no snickering) of 9-11 and the like but the fact is that the average republican will not pull the lever for a person they consider their inferior.

If he wants to get nominated, he should have been born a Democrat. But it is too late.

You heard it here first.
