Border love
Some of my best friends are Canadian.
Doesn't that sound patronizing? No. Not really as it is true.
It is a little embarrassing for me, still, to hear a Canadian call me an American as I regard all of us as Americans. But I will take it. This is just one of so many examples of Canadian graceful and beautiful manners.
So, it is with a great deal of pleasure that I saw this tape. They do like us. I want to make one with us saying the same about them.
Can you even grasp the Canadian/American miracle?
The border between us is real but it is one of the least contentious borders in the world. Like us, the biggest and bestest.
There was nothing in the debate last night about Canadians creeping into our country or causing us problems.
One might say that is because Canadians are just like us but that is not really true. They are not like us. They are Canadian. And the difference does not take long to notice. It is a nice difference. Sweet. We are like brothers and sisters in a good family. Actually, that is what we have become.
Oh Canada!

Strange beast
If you never thought much about Winnipeg, Canada, today's film will change your whole perspective on things.
I think that one purpose of documentaries is to make us look at something we would normally ignore or walk by or save to another time, meaning never.
is a combination love letter and documentary. Also, I suppose, a fantasy and a wish for a time that never was.
It drips of nostalgia.
In a nice way.
A beautiful film using archive footage and new material, Guy Maddin takes us along on a trip back home, a walk through the past.
Very nice. And you do not have to be a Canadian to enjoy this trip.
A 4 out of Netflix5. I would not mind seeing it again.

Oh Canada!
This is where the Canadians kick our ass every time.
Well, that is not an apt description. But goddammit we are here with plenty of resources to help. We seriously stirred the pots to cause the problem and yet we do nothing.
Syrian Refugees Greeted by Justin Trudeau in Canada
Even Obama seems afraid to take this on.
I suppose there are "priorities". It has been eight long years and I suppose that they are tired. But I did not elect an administration without a heart. Where is it?
I grew up in a kinder gentler, more generous country.
Or at least I thought I did. Perhaps I was naive.
It is not a PR game of course. But if it was, then we would be eating dust.
We should be ashamed of ourselves.
I suppose the Zionist lobbies that run a lot of our country's policies are against anything that helps Muslims.
I say bullshit. This is right way the Israel fixation gets us every time.

Good neighbors
Our Canadian friends have a new government this morning.
Justin Trudeau and Liberal Party Prevail With Stunning Rout in Canada
This is a big deal.
He is a great guy. Watch the video.
And on top of everything else, he is a looker.
The Canadian system is parliamentary and has a lot of aspects that are not the same as our setup. But there is no doubt that the image of the head guy is very important.
The old PM was an old poop. And looked it.

Oh Canada! Happy Day To You
Today is Canada Day.
They wisely chose the first Monday approach.
We have to wait until Thursday.
But actually all days are the same to me.
For our Canadian friend(s).

OH CANADA
Today is Canada Day, the answer to our Independence Day. They are still working it out with the Brits but, for all intents and purposes, they are independent. The Queen still has some connection but I think it is mostly for parades and such. She is on the money. The coin called the loony (variously spelled loonie or looney in the Google). Not for the Queen but the bird on the other side.
This is for our Canadian friends. There is at least one.
Palms and the maple.
I have even created a new "label" for the day.
