Home is where the heart is

Our "home" was and is always Provincetown MA.

We went there for years and in various configurations. We rented a second floor house for the summer, right on the beach. When we bought a house in Boston, we couldn't afford that so we went as often as we could and stayed at an inn on the East End.

This film based on drone photography brought tears to our eyes.

The quality of video is so improved.

I felt I could reach out and touch it.

We rented a place right in the center of town for six years. Near that big pier. Across from the Congo Church.

I can smell the bay.

The large crowds are there on Pride day. The big parade. Normally, busy but easy to navigate, we would do Commercial Street from one end to the other almost daily. Never a dull moment.

Blow it up to big full screen size.

P-Town

Here is where we spent at least five full summers and many many weekends before and after.

36 Hours in Provincetown MA

This is a very good writeup.

Of course, we spent many weekends and weeks there before and after our full time. We were gay. We were within a hundred miles. The magnet reached quite far.

In the early years, we would stay with friends, a sleeping bag if there was no extra bed. If we had some money we stayed in a motel off the strip.

Then, for five years we rented a second floor beachfront condo. Old style. Bare wood rafters. Quite old. On the middle east end of Commercial Street. Barely off the strip. But back on the beach, no noise.

In the last years we stayed in high style further out the East End at a nice condo like place on the water. We practically lived there.

And then we wanted our own condo in Boston and that killed the cash cow that we milked to spend so much PTown time.

And, frankly, by that time, we had burned out on most of it. In a good way. Much more relaxed and water oriented. Nice.

But it was time to go and we went. Back to Boston and then for vacations other places. One of which was Palm Springs.

The rest is history. Ten years later we lived here full time. California, here we came.

There is no way that PS has the wild gay vibe of Provincetown. More sedate. For one thing while the gays are now over 40% of the population, we run to the older, more affluent and partying does go on but not anywhere near where we live. Palm Springs has depth and height and the goings on are going on some distance away.

In Provincetown there were two streets and even on the more sedate street, it never went away.

I don't miss it at all. I am glad we did it all though. Unforgettable.

P-TOWN

All we needed was the foghorn.

And the bay lapping the shore.

Otherwise, today's walk was totally reminiscent of walking the wet sand on the Cape.

We had low hanging clouds, not quite fog.

We had no mountains to distract.

The air was damp and a bit pungent. Not sea weed quite but still. Our odor comes from the south, the Salton Sea. Voila!

We are walking along the dry river bed. There are a lot of rocks and such lining the walls of the river to be when it really really rains.

And there is a lot of dried plant stuff along the sand walkway. Could be seaweed.

For awhile it took us back to those days we lived along the strand in Provincetown, just this side of the raucous crowd. Close enough to the fun if we wanted. Away when we did not. The quiet beach.

I can always go back and be there. The place we miss most from the days back east. All I have to do is have a morning like this one and a few cues. I am back.
