Loud silence
Today's film is a contemporary silent film.
Movies learn to speak but the actors can't quite catch a ride on the new bus.
This is a great film with a great dog who almost steals the whole show.
I have seen it several times and was quite happy to see it again.

Young men
Today's film is about two young men finding their first boyfriend.
A surprise to both of them. Hello!
Very nice. Sweet.
German film so it is subtitled but a lot of it is, well, silent.
The title also refers to alienation. The youth who find their own lives apart from the system and establishment.
This is in our library and so I wanted to have another look today. A 5 out of Netflix5.
I am a sucker for teen coming out films as I did not have one of those. I missed a lot but I do not regret missing the angst and heartbreak.
One of the things about these guys is that they are totally on their own. There is a custodial relative somewhere but they are busy and so the boys are free in an odd way. Free to have their lives unencumbered by family. A paradox. Nice. There is a shadow father in the picture but we only see him taking the boys somewhere for a long walk at Templehof Airport. A nice touch as Templehof was the main link during the Berlin blockade. I certainly remember it from the news when I was a kid. Now it is all dead but the boys sort of bring it alive.
Did I mention how sweet this film is? You will notice that Kirill has a bruised and cut face because he was gay bashed on a trip visiting Moscow. There is a lot of emotional healing here. It is understood not explicit.

Old favorites
Today's film is an old favorite.
An old favorite based on the novel by Matthew Rettenmund.
Loved the novel, love the movie. I have seen it many times. It is somehow perfect for me. The conjunction of the various streams of gay live. Aging gay, coming out as a teen gay, living together gay, hustling gay and becoming a committed couple gay.
Can't be beat.
A 5 out of Netflix5.

Close call
I guess coming of age in England is about the same as here.
In today's film, a feisty young woman, part girl still, is facing the uphill of making the transition to an adult. Should she accept it or should she hang around and be an adolescent in the sort of fucked up sense.
She takes the tougher route and grows up.
We do not get to choose the path to our rites of passage. And such is the case here.
with Tim Roth and the wonderful young woman Eloise Laurence as "Skunk". The teenager in question.
Cillian Murphy helps out as a teacher.
This is not a great movie. Not everyone should see it. There are too many hurdles as though the writers sought to really really make it hard for our girl.
Some of the strands of story are abandoned. Keerist, they would need a whole television series to resolve it all.
But I enjoyed it as long as it lasted even though I did have my hand on the FF button occasionally. Or maybe closer to the stop.
A 3 out of Netflix5.
