In the middle
This is a list of people who died in the middle of their work.
Show people, mostly. That kind of public thing.
I always dreamed of doing this but now it is too late. I quit working fifteen years ago.
I suppose now I could drop dead in the middle of a condo board meeting.
List of Entertainers That Died During Performance
There is also the euphemism: "I died out there" to indicate a bad performance.
Or conversely, "I killed" to mean that it was a great performance.
Then there is rolling in the aisles but I think that means something else than dying.

The common man
Today's film was not quite a biopic.
More of an appreciation.
Harry Dean Stanton: Partly Fiction
Stanton is in the "whattaguy" category of film actors.
An actor first, then an unforgettable personality.
We actually know him already from the over 200 parts he has played as a "character actor", the title they give to actors who are so good and yet never get a lead.
As I expected, he is a very interesting guy. He has an ego but it has been kept in check by the limits of how he is used.
He works all the time and he almost always has gotten to play "himself" which he says is a blessing. Of course we know and he knows that "playing yourself" takes incredible focus and preparation. It is a matter of selecting the best part to bring forth at the particular moment.
I liked him as a person as much as I have looked forward to seeing him in a movie. Anytime, anywhere.
There is a lot of other interesting stuff in this film. People he has played with, friends, film history.
Very nice.
I will give it a 4 out of Netflix5 as I could watch it again without a second's hesitation.

ACTING OUT
This is a great feature.
The best for obvious reasons is James Franco.
And, incidentally, this is the NYT ready and able in the video / computer paperless age. I mean that they are putting the same quality into their cybernews as in their historic newspaper type news. And then some.

PAUL DANO
I am fascinated by this guy.
Chasing Stardom, in No Particular Rush
I just figured out that he was the kid in the film L.I.E. (read it straight or see it as Long Island Expressway) in which he is the "victim" of a pedophile, Brian Cox. We saw this years ago and were spellbound by the story and the acting.
Recently, there is Little Miss Sunshine and There Will Be Blood.
He holds the screen in the presence of such formidable scene stealers as Alan Arkin and Daniel Day-Lewis.
I don't get caught up with young actors much any more but this one is quite different.
He doesn't want to play out the young male acting sensation career arc and he isn't.
Very good.

MAN OF THE MOMENT
So right there today, there is an article and a video of Joseph Gordon-Levitt. NYT Magazine fashion spread and interview. Be sure to watch the video.
How coincidental is that?
