Today's film was the Swedish

Allt flyter / The Swimsuit Issue (2008)

This mild mannered jock film has a lot to owe to some other inspirational, aspirational and conventional plot twists but it still is sweet and simple and has a mild frisson at the end.

A bunch of regular guys, but not too regular as it turns out, lose their practice space for hockey and somehow, I am still scratching my head on this one, get the idea to try out synchronized swimming. Well, one guy's daughter is on a synch team. I don't know.

Anyway they all agree to try it out as a joke which falls flat in the event because they are too good to be funny but not good enough to get any cheers.

They decide to keep working with it.

Not everyone is good looking. Not everyone has the same talent. Not everyone is a team player but not in a bad way.

There is a world competition that they want to enter and do.

I will give it a 3 out of Netflix5 particularly because of the way they handle the side issue of homophobia and potential fag bashing. Very slick in that department.

Well, the synchronous swimming is kind of nelly.
