HE IS BACK

I await the return of Orion every mid summer. Later summer.

I found him yesterday.

It is not as easy to see the stars at this new place. There is a lot of ambient light and at the end of our daily pee walk (Booker not me) there is a really bright lollipop light so we are star sighting challenged looking that way.

I do remember that he was here last year when we moved. Just over the eastern horizon. When the light goes out, a regular electrical malfunction, it is amazing how many stars there are to see.

I am big on Orion because it is the first and only constellation that I learned to identify. Well, there is the Big Dipper but everyone can see that. I cannot see the Little Dipper though. Where is it?

It was in 8th grade, the first meeting of the school's Astronomy Club. Mr. Ravelli and three other kids. Not enough. It was our last session.

That is how come I never saw any others. I had a star map and I could do it on my own but I didn't and don't. Now, I don't stay up late enough.

Half the year, Orion is rising in the night. In the winter I can catch him because of the time difference and it is dark. But then I lose him when he starts coming up after 7-8 PM.

And so on.

I was not made to be an astronomer. Not even an astrologist.
