EASTERN SPRING
Booker and I went out back this afternoon to bask in the 80+ degree weather.
We strolled and then sat and then strolled again.
As we were heading back to the house I saw, there on the ground, a dandelion.
I have never seen a dandelion out here. Well, never in 12 years.
It is small. Bright yellow. Probably a seed that drifted from another wetter place and somehow landed in just the right place.
I grew up with dandelions.
I tried to get rid of them when I had the lawn obsession in suburbia. That didn't last long.
I learned to love the flower and welcome it.
Now, I have one right here to look at.
I hope that it matures and gives us a puffball of seeds but that is unlikely.
The gardener's helpers go out there every week with the weed whacker and I am sure that dandelions are not on their "save" list.
It is a nice thing for today though. And for the next three and a half days until whack time.
