BLOCKHEAD
Today's NYTimes Best 1176 Films was Disney's
This movie scared the shit out of me when I was a little kid.
I was only four.
It includes getting abducted, slave labor, enclosure in a small cell, child molestation, exposure to bad companions, bestiality (well, growing animal parts on your own body), nicotine and alcohol poisoning, homelessness, abandonment, ingestion by a large animal, drowning and witchcraft to name a few.
I am not so sure that I could take it as an adult.
It is beautifully drawn and, perhaps, the fastest moving of the early films.
I don't think much of its message although it probably scared me into good behavior for awhile.
I will give it a 3 out of Netflix5 on the merits of the artwork and voices. Mel Blanc made his debut in this film as the kitty and the fish. Cliff Edwards was Jiminy Cricket. Edwards was a radio personality. All around talent.
In those days the talent went uncredited.
Good idea. Now it is so celebrity bound that the characters often take second place.
I will give it a 2 out of Netflix5. I still didn't like it much as pretty as it is. I will never see it again. Not for the rest of my life. Happily ever after.
