NO FOOLIN'
Today's movie was the Criterion restoration of Jean-Luc Godard's revolutionary
with Jean-Paul Bel Mondo and Anna Karina.
It didn't have legs.
What was revolutionary and enlightening about this absurdist take on Hollywood genrés is now less of a romp than it was the first time around.
I am sure that I saw it. I don't remember them all.
Some of the stuff looks, now, like grade school.
Viet Nam figures in as well as just about all the cultural icons of the time.
Well, I don't suppose he made it to be timeless.
It is a bit unfair to complain.
Since there is little plot and the 'episodes' are more like bits of a silent comedy (with sound) and slapstick, it looks more than it feels.
I am glad that I got it just to check in on my past.
I found it a bit embarrassing but not without its charm.
After all, I am the result of my past and so is good cinema today.
A lot that looks silly now was groundbreaking then.
And Bel Mondo is a sexy hunk.
I will give it a 3 out of Netflix5 in respect for its past.
