THREE AND A HALF SAMURAI

Today I watched half of Kurosawa's

Shichinin no samurai / Seven Samurai (1954)

So far so good.

It is over 3 1/2 hours along. Too much for me.

But I enjoyed the first half a great deal.

There is a nice long buildup of characters as the samurai are collected.

It is funnier than I remember it from the first time I saw it—a very long time ago.

Perhaps I was too intimidated then about its provenance.

This is a NYTimes Best 1176 Film after all.
