CLASS ACT
Today we watched the scruffy reporter snag the society dame in
Gable and Colbert go at it in this NYTimes 1176 Best Film (and everyone elses' too).
We had never seen it before; well, out-takes.
It is pretty good. What can I say about it?
The restoration is incredibly good. The by-play is langorous and easy to follow. The romantic parts of it are touching and realistic.
The bit with the blanket in the motel room has legs and keeps the whole thing delighfully innocent.
I will give it a 5 out of Netflix5.
Comments:
Hey, wow, guess what movie we got from Netflix for Saturday night? And guess who also gave it 5 out of 5? I was also surprised by the quality of the restoration. At the end we watched the trailer and I was reminded how crappy I expected it to look. In the trailer it looks really old-timey, almost from the silent era. This shouldn't make a difference in the viewing experience, but it does. Good stuff.
