GRASS
We have given up on annual flowers. They cannot handle the extremes. Even when we plant for season, the variables are too extreme in this location. Too much shade for part of the day then too much sun. In winter, little light at all. The only alternative is ground cover or bermuda grass. Since bermuda grass is ubiquitous; hence a weed in any non-grass location, we bow to the reality. Grass growing as a weed in grass is no problem. Grass growing through ground cover is an eyesore and a burden to pull out.

Here, Franklin is inspecting the work of the ground crew. He approves of the sod placement and the relocation of sprinklers to serve grass not flowers. In addition, he has studied the arc of the water, so that, if and when/ the sprinklers go off, he will be out of there like a bolt of lightning; at the first hiss of water.
