While we are celebrating our nation's birthday, let's think about its heroes.

I heard Pete Seeger in 1954 when I was a freshman at MIT.

I was transfixed.

He helped me form my politics and my personal values and told me that the personal was political.

He is 89 years old this year. Another reason he is a hero. I should live so long.
