CZECH IT OUT

Today's film was

Obsluhoval jsem anglického krále / I Served the King of England (2006)

As I watched this wonderfully rueful dark comedy I thought about other Eastern European films like Loves of a Blonde and Fireman's Ball and especially Closely Watched Trains and damn, if this isn't by the director of Trains, Jiri Menzel.

A young waiter is taught to observe human behavior and act on what he learns. Of course, this is a suggestion to the audience as well.

In the process he learns about money and what it can do to people. He forgets that he is one of the people.

As you watch this great young actor, Ivan Barnev, you will also think of the Buster Keaton films. Subtle and not so subtle. The physical comedy is superb.

You must see this film and I will see it again and that makes it a 5 out of Netflix5.
